For more information please visit our Volunteer Page at www.srhf.org. ANNUAL PIONEER PICNIC For the past 10years the San Ramon Historic Foundation has hosted an invitation only Pioneer Potluck of the last Sunday of September. The hot dogs and beverages are provided and the attendees bring wonderful homemade dishes to be shared. Our list of Pioneers are not inclusive and we need everyone’s help to keep it current. We just wanted to get everyone together to talk about their lives here in the Tri-Valley and share their experiences. We now have a microphone so we all can hear the stories, and they are such fun to hear. Some tell stories on others and bring up things that some have forgotten. We all laugh and so enjoy the get together. They told us they just want to get together and talk to their old friends in a comfortable setting. So that is why we do it. 2 ISSUE NO 36: December 2016 CONFERENCE OF CALIFORNIA HISTORICAL SOCIETIES Each year the Conference puts on a Symposium in different parts of the state and the members come from all over for a four day weekend of learning, and experiencing history. This year the Symposium was in the Tri-Valley area and the theme was Highway 21 Historical connections. Now how many of you know where Highway 21 was? It was basically the road from Martinez to Sunol and on to San Jose. In the Valley it was Danville Boulevard, San Ramon Valley Boulevard in San Ramon, San Ramon Road in Dublin, and Foothill Road in Pleasanton. Along this route are significant historical sites. In Danville is the Museum of the San Ramon Valley at the Depot. Forest Home Farms in San Ramon, Dublin Heritage site in Dublin and Alviso Adobe in Pleasanton. There were events and hands-on activities at each site. In Danville they viewed the museum exhibits and had tours of historic downtown. Then they went to Forest Home Farms. We had a workshop on Genealogy, tours of the David and Eliza Glass House, docents led tours of the Tractor Museum and the Tractor rides and Sheep dog demonstrations. We finished the day with an old fashioned BBQ in the Barn. It was wonderful to hear people from all over the state talk about Forest Home Farms and the fun they were having. We were able to spread this historic site to a broader group of people in hopes that they will tell others and come for a visit. They next visited Alviso Adobe and learned the history of the Adobe and the Dairy that was also on site. They were able to make their very own adobe brick and had a great lunch. To end the symposium they traveled to the Dublin Heritage site where they viewed the old church and school house, and toured the house and cemetery, ending with a wonderful dinner in the old school barn. From the comments of the attendees they had a wonderful time and learned about history in the Tri-Valley.
