Please note that row gauge is important on this pattern, as the front neck shaping needs to begin at the end of
the 3rd repeat of the center motif. If you aren’t getting row gauge, then your sweater will be longer or shorter
than the schematic indicates.
Abbreviations
BO – Bind off.
CO – Cast on.
c7b – slip 4 stitches on to cable needle and hold in back, k3, k4 from cable needle.
k – Knit

Ktbl – knit into the back leg of the stitch.
p – Purl
psso – Pass the slip stitch over the last stitch worked.

ssk – slip 1 stitch as if to knit, slip a 2nd stitch as if to knit, insert the left needle into the front leg of the 2

Begin back shaping by decreasing 1 stitch on each end (ssk at the beginning of the row, k2tog at end of row)
this row, then every 10 rows 2 (0, 2, 0, 0) times, then every 8 rows 11 (13, 11, 7, 7) times, then every 6 rows 0
(1, 0, 9, 9) times while continuing the center motif and st st on each side of the center motif. 101 (111, 123,
135, 147) stitches. Work even until back measures 18.5 inches from CO.
Armhole Shaping
BO 5 (6, 7, 9, 10) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 stitch on each end every RS row 5 (6,
7, 9, 10) times. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9) inches from the initial armhole BO, ending
with a RS row.
Neck shaping
Next row, p22 (23, 25, 26, 30) stitches, k37 (41, 45, 47, 47) stitches, purl to end of row. Knit 1 row. Next row,
p22 (23, 25, 26, 30) stitches, BO 37 (41, 45, 47, 47) stitches, purl to end of row. Place remaining shoulder
stitches on stitch holders to be joined to front.
Front
CO 129 (141, 151, 169, 181) stitches. Knit 6 rows. Next row (RS) k50 (56, 61, 70, 76), pm, work row 1 of center
motif, pm, knit to end of row. P50 (56, 61, 70, 76), pm, work row 2 of center motif, purl to end of row.
Front Shaping
Begin back shaping by decreasing 1 stitch on each end (ssk at beginning of row, k2tog on end of row) this row,
then every 10 rows 2 (0, 2, 0, 0) times, then every 8 rows 11 (13, 11, 7, 7) times, then every 6 rows 0 (1, 0, 9, 9)
times while continuing the center motif and st st on each side of the center motif. At the same time, begin
neck shaping when the 3rd repeat of the center motif is complete. The motif ends on a WS row.
Neck & Armhole Shaping
Left Front
Work in pattern to the center motif, k8, p3, k2, k2tog, place the remaining stitches on waste yarn or a stitch
holder to be worked later. Working just on the left front, purl 1 row. Begin the V neck shaping, work even until
9 stitches remain in row, k2tog, k1, p3, k3. The neck border will maintain the same pattern that was in the
original motif. The last 7 stitches on every RS row will be k1, p3, k3 and all stitches on the WS rows will be purl.

While continuing to shape the neck, begin armhole shaping when front measures 18.5 inches from CO. BO 5
(6, 7, 9, 10) stitches. Decrease 1 stitch on the armhole edge every RS row 5 (6, 7, 9, 10) times.
Decrease as above (k2tog, k1, p3, k3) on the neck edge every RS rows 7 (9, 11, 13, 10) times, then every 4
rows 10 (10, 10, 10, 12) times. Work even until armhole measures 7.5 (8, 8.5, 9, 9.25, 9.75) inches. Place
stitches on a stitch holder to be joined with back using a 3 needle BO.
Right Front
Join yarn to the right front at the neck edge. K3, p3, k to end of row. Purl 1 row. Begin V neck shaping, k3,
p3, k1, ssk, knit to end of row. The neck border will maintain the same pattern that was in the original motif. RS rows will always begin with k3, p3, k1 and on WS rows, purl all the stitches.
While continuing neck shaping, begin armhole shaping when front measures 18.5 inches from CO. BO 5 (6,
7, 9, 10) stitches. Decrease 1 stitch on the armhole edge every RS row 5 (6, 7, 9, 10) times.
Decrease as above (k3, p3, k1, ssk) on the neck edge every RS rows 7 (9, 11, 13, 10) times, then every 4 rows
10 (10, 10, 10, 12) times. Work even until armhole measures 7.5 (8, 8.5, 9, 9.25, 9.75) inches.
Join the front and back shoulders using the 3 needle BO.
Sleeves (make 2)
CO 68 (72, 78, 82, 92). Knit 2 rows, next row (RS) work in
st st for 4 rows. BO 5 (6, 7, 9, 10) at the beginning of the
next 2 rows. Decrease on each end on every RS row
4 (5, 5, 5, 5) times, then every 4 rows 4 (4, 5, 5, 5) times,
then every RS row 4 (4, 4, 4, 5) times. BO 11 (11, 12, 12,
14) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows, working
to the end of each of those rows in pattern. BO
remaining stitches.
Finishing
Sew sleeves into armholes, then sew sleeve seams and
arm seams. Work in all loose ends. Dampen sweater with
cool water and lay flat to dry.
