The solar system is absolutely amazing. It
contains eight planets, their moons, and the sun. The sun
heats the planets, and creates light on each one. The solar
system is part of the universe. Many people wonder how
it got there. Some people think that there was a huge
explosion! That’s called “the Big Bang Theory”. Some
people believe other things happened like God created
the solar system. But to this very day, nobody knows
exactly how it was created. Two of the planets in the
solar system are very interesting Mars, and
Mercury.
from the sun, that’s why it’s so cold! Mars is nicknamed
the “red planet” because of the metal, and iron in its soil.
Mars has an atmosphere made of mostly carbon dioxide.
It’s surface is mostly a rocky crust, and it’s core is mostly
iron. Mars has a volcano the size of Texas! It takes Mars
4,687 days to orbit the sun. There may have once been
living things on Mars because of the liquid water that
used to exist there- now it is a polar ice cap. Phobos and
Deimos move closer to mars every year. If they crash
into Mars, they will form rings! Mars is the last of the
Terrestrial planets.
Mercury has no life. It does not have any water, so
nothing can survive. Mercury has no moons that revolve
around it and no rings that circle it. Mercury has almost
no atmosphere. Mercury has a surface that’s mostly dust
and rock. Inside Mercury is liquid iron core. Mercury is
the smallest planet in the solar
system. It is also the closest
planet to the sun witch explains
why it has an orbit is only 88
earth days long. Because it is the

closest planet to the sun, in the

daytime Mercury is hotter than
an oven! At night, it is colder than a freezer. No one has
ever seen the other side of Mercury. Scientists think that
Mercury looks more like a moon than a planet.
Mars and Mercury are alike in many ways. One
of the similarities are they both have no rings that circle
them. Also, they are both inner planets. Mercury and
Mars are alike, because they have a dirty, rocky crust.
Nothing will ever live on these planets due to there
extreme temperatures.
Everybody says aliens live on Mars, but the
truth
is they don’t. Mars
really has no life. But it does
have two moons: Phobos, and
Deimos. Phobos is 14 miles

across and Deimos is 1.4 miles

across. Mars is smaller than
Earth, it’s only half the size! No one could live on Mars
because it is so cold it is -80F! Mars is 141 million miles
Mars and Mercury are also different. One of the
ways they are different is that Mars has two moons and
Mercury has none. They both have an iron core, however
Mars has a liquid iron core and Mercury has a solid iron
core. Another way they are different is it takes Mars
4,687 days to orbit the Sun and it only takes Mercury 88
days to circle or orbit the Sun.

The solar system is growing even today so there
could be more planets discovered in the future. Scientists
believe it may soon get smaller. The eight planets in the
solar system are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter,
Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. There used to be 9 planets
in the solar system but scientists decided it was to small
and not round so it could not be a planet. Maybe
someday we will uncover all the secrets of the solar
system.
