Week 33 - Palestine Independent School District

2012-2013
PALESTINE ISD
WILDCAT WEEKLY
Friday, May 10, 2013
Hello everyone,
When I think about my years in school, I remember my teachers more than anything else. One great teacher can make all the
difference in a child’s life. Thank you to our teachers for the amazing jobs you do.
Some of our Northside Primary students were chosen to attend an Etiquette
Tea at the Red Fire Grill in downtown Palestine. Many thanks to Daun and
Christian Mailloux, owners of the Red Fire Grill for helping our students learn
all about Tea Time. I would also like to thank Barbara Dutton, Dorenda Smith,
Mimi Spreen, and the Northside staff members who volunteered for the occasion. What a treat!

Palestine ISD will be hosting an Educational Technology Conference
entitled “iHeartDevices” on August 8, 2013 co-sponsored by
TCEA (Texas Computer Education Agency) and Apple.
The conference will focus on
mobile devices in education,
best practices to integrate in
curriculum, management &
infrastructure, and classroom
ideas. The event is open to
everyone from classroom
teachers, administrators, to
technology directors. If
districts are in the planning
stages of acquiring mobile
devices or if they have had a
1:1 structure for a while or
need ideas to bridge technology and curriculum, we would
love your participation and
collaboration. This is an
excellent opportunity to network with area schools, and
share ideas and transform
our educational
practices to
st
reflect 21 century job skills. Registration is open at tcea.org and more information can be found on the
website iHeartDevices.weebly.com. For more information contact Shannon
Leisure at extension 1270 or Kim Nelms at 1272.

PJH News Palestine Junior High students and staff are having a very busy Spring. We have enjoyed adding golf and tennis to our
sports activities on campus. Our students and coaches have done a great job representing our campus and district as they
have prepared and competed. We are looking forward to continued success with the programs and great achievements
from these students. Thanks to Coach Tyler and Coach Hawthorne for working to make these activities a success.
Seventh grade students journeyed to Austin
Monday. They visited the Bob Bullock Museum
of Texas History where they saw first-hand documents and artifacts they have studied. They also
were able to see the process of government in
action as they sat in the gallery of the senate and
listened to senators debate House Bill 5. This was
amazing for them to hear our representatives
discuss state assessment and campus and district
rankings. They also saw reporters and supporters
in the gallery recording the events. Such a great
way to conclude a year of Texas History.
Students and faculty enjoyed the collegiate spirit
Friday. Mrs. Paris visited our social studies classes
and discussed college topic while incorporating a
media clip.
Tuesday evening an impressive
42 students were inducted into
National Junior Honor Society. Our officers did an outstanding job leading the ceremony. Our high school jazz band
set the tone with pre-ceremony
music. Thanks to sponsors Mrs.
Walters and Barazza for making
sure our students and program
went so well.
Our choir students enjoyed their
performances at Six Flags along
with spending time with high
school choir students. A great
time was had by all and students
performed well.
