Graphing Kinetic Energy
Remember:
Technically, energy is defined as the ability to do work. Less technically, energy is the stuff that
stuff has that allows stuff to do stuff to other stuff. Without this stuff, stuff can‘t do stuff to other
stuff. It is measured in units of Joules.
Kinetic energy (KE) is the energy of motion and is possessed by moving objects. The amount of
kinetic energy a moving object possesses depends on its mass and velocity. KE is calculated
using the formula:
KE = ½mv2
m = mass (kg)
v = velocity (m/s)
ORDER OF OPERATIONS: only square the velocity value; PEMDAS!!

 Calculate and record the KE for the variables provided in data table 2
 Graph the calculated KE from table 2 on graph 2 (5 pts)
 The MV is plotted on the x-axis
 Calculate the slope of the line on the right side of the paper (units!)
