I want to thank EVERYONE who participated and helped last Saturday, the 19th of November. We will have another opportunity to gather with those who were not able to attend, to review the liturgical policy of our Parish. Indeed, Advent is a new beginning. It marks the beginning of a new Liturgical Year of the church. It marks the beginning of a new cycle – Cycle A – for the Scripture Readings, and with it, the reading of a new Gospel – the Gospel according to St. Matthew. It marks the beginning of our preparation to celebrate Christmas once again. And it marks the beginning of a new journey for those who have not received the Sacraments of Initiation already, as they are accepted into the Catechumenate at a Mass which will be celebrated the First Sunday of Advent, November 27th, at 11:00 AM. This Sunday, the readings of the Word of God invite us to be prepared for the coming of the Lord, since we do not know when it will happen. Today’s Gospel tells us, “at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.” My dear brothers and sisters, what do we have to do in order to be ready for that day? St. Paul gives us a few good advices in his Letter to the Romans: “Let us stop doing the things that belong to the dark (meaning sin), and let us take up weapons for fighting in the light. . . . take up the weapons of the Lord Jesus Christ . . .’ (Romans 13:12-14). Advent is a great opportunity to come to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and prepare ourselves, with our hearts free from sin, to receive the Lord who always comes to our lives. A great time to do this will be next Thursday, December 1st, at our Advent Penance Service, which will take place at 6:30 PM. On that day, several priests will come to assist me in listening to your confessions. This Sunday, as we bless our Advent Wreath and begin to light the candles – one each Sunday, let us ask the Lord to help us to prepare and to be witnesses of His ligt! Tomás P. Apologetics and New Evangelization Classes “How to Understand, Explain, Defend and Share the Catholic Faith” A Quick Journey Through the Bible is an excellent way to build interest in adult faith formation. This simple, accessible program uses the Bible Timeline learning system to give people a useful framework from which to read and understand the Bible. We will take a chronological walk through the Bible story in a way that reveals God’s plan for His Creation; what went wrong at the beginning; and how God worked through history to reconcile his lost children to Himself while building His kingdom. This class starts on December 2nd at 6:00 pm in the Good Counsel Room. Learn how to explain your faith clearly, defend it charitably, and share it confidently by attending these classes on Friday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the Good Counsel Room. For additional information, please contact Jorge Medina, at the Adult Faith Formation office, 407-695-3262 ext.
