General Information websites about mental health and other sources
of information
•
Internet Mental Health www.mentalhealth.com
This Internet Mental Health site has a "free encyclopaedia of health information" which gives
details of disorders, treatment and research. Designed by Canadian psychologist, Dr Phillip
Long. Includes links to other Internet mental health sites, though does not offer any editorial
comment as to their value. Concerned with mental health issues in general rather than
specifically on the Internet.
•
MentalHelp.net www.mentalhealth.net
This site attempts to "list every resource for each topic covered currently online", and with a
claimed 63,000 links there is certainly plenty to explore. Advised in its development by Dr John
Grohol, who for several years has run PsychCentral (see below).
The emphasis is on information and discussion of mental health issues in the wider community
rather than online. A sub-site (.net/psyhelp/) has the best self-help book in the business.
•
Psych Central www.psychcentral.com
Psych Central is aimed at both professionals and clients, but with the emphasis on its being a
resource list for the client. Devised and run by Dr John Grohol since early 1995, and closely
related to the Mental Health Net site (see above). The newsgroup and web site lists are very
comprehensive and well worth scanning just to appreciate the range of mental health related
topics already available on the Internet.
