Introducing OPAL in the Campbelltown Community
Children and adults who are
active and enjoy healthy eating
are more likely to live a
healthy life.
Eating healthy and being
active in your community are
also great ways to have fun
and enjoy being with family
and friends.
OPAL is a joint Federal, State
and Local Government healthy
weight initiative aimed at 0-18
year olds based on an impressive French program EPODE.
OPAL is a communitybased healthy lifestyle
program supporting you
and your family to eat
well and be active.
OPAL will be in Campbelltown
for five years, working in partnership with families and the
community in the suburbs of
Campbelltown,
Hectorville,
Newton and Paradise to make
healthy eating and physical
activity the easy and fun
choice.
OPAL was selected for the City
of Campbelltown to create
opportunities for physical activity and healthy eating. It
ensures sustainable changes to
the environment to make
healthy choices easier for the
community. The initiative will
make a genuine difference to
the health of individuals and
community by becoming part
of community life.
Every twelve months a new
fun and interactive OPAL
theme will be launched in your
community so keep a look out
for opportunities to get
involved!
OPAL will work with the
Campbelltown community to
strengthen and introduce a
range of initiatives which could
include:
- Developing skills to prepare
delicious meals that are good
for you and your family.
- Implementing Healthy Food
Policies .
- Increasing safe scenic paths to
cycle or walk to work and
school.
- Ensuring good quality drinking
water in public places.
- Supporting supermarkets that
encourage healthier food
choices.
- Assisting community gardens
where members can grow their
own fruit and vegetables .

The OPAL Make it a Fresh Snack Fender Blender
Children and families in Campbelltown will
soon be using pedal power to create their
own healthy snack, following this month’s
launch of the new OPAL Campbelltown
Fender Blender.
In what some may see as a blast from the
past, this stationary pedal-powered fruit
smoothie machine requires no electricity,
just simply the fancy footwork of anyone
willing to give it a go – and the rewards
are tasty as well.
“The new OPAL Fender Blender will now
become a permanent feature for family
events held across Campbelltown and was
a great way to engage children, parents
and the wider community in exploring
new and exciting ways to make healthy
food a fun, exciting and simple choice,”
Paul Di Iulio, Campbelltown City Council
CEO said.
You and your family can be one of the first
people to try a healthy free smoothie at
the Tour Down Under OPAL bike storage
located at the Library car park on Wednesday 23rd January and at the Moonlight
Markets on Friday 1st February.
