Member Matters Volume 4 Issue 4 June 2012 Inside this issue: Marge Andrew Retires Pg 1 Karen Mask taking on lending duties Cheque Image Options A Note From the CEO Michelle Daling Departs Introducing New Members of the PCCU Team Pg 2 Marg Andrew Retires After 31 Years Retiring in 2012, Marg Andrew has literally spent a lifetime serving our members as a Loan Officer. Helping our members with their financial needs has always been her top priority. Her dedication and commitment to member service will leave a legacy for those that follow. Marg will be missed by all. We wish her all the best as she enjoys her retirement. Marg will be leaving in June. We will have a large card available for members to write in their good wishes. Please come by and enjoy some cake with us on her final day, June 29th and help us wish her well. Karen Mask will have big shoes to fill as she takes over when Marg leaves the credit union in June. Members will recognize Karen as the familiar face at the front desk as she served as the Secretary for many years. Karen has been working in a new capacity in the past 2 years, as Financial Services Officer. She has been working with Marg to assist members with their loan requests. Karen has also been taking credit union lending courses to ensure she has all of the tools needed to assist members with your loan requests. Options for Cheque Images A few of our members have expressed concerns about not getting copies of all of the cheque images with your statements. All of the cheque images can be viewed and printed at no charge from our online banking system. If you do not have access to online banking, we would happy to set you up and there is no fee to use it. If you do not wish to access our online banking system, then your cheque images are kept stored on a secure site managed by our Central credit union. If a member needs a copy of a cheque image to prove payment we can request a copy from our secure Central credit union site. We can order up to 2 copies per member per month without a fee. Another alternative for some of our business members who may not want to use online banking is to allow your bookkeeper or accountant online access. We can restrict the access to viewing only so no posting can occur on your account. If you wish to arrange this, the credit union has an authorization form that you can sign and we will do the rest. Please contact us at 705-748-4481 and will be happy to assist you to make this transition as easy as possible. Page 2 Member Matters From the Desk of the CEO People Changes, Challenges and Opportunities There have been many changes in the past three years since Mr Butterworth retired. John Potts, Credit Manager reached retirement age 1 year later. PCCU has enjoyed the luxury of having long serving staff members, but many have, or will be reaching retirement age within the next few years. Those who have already reached retirement age include Gail Trotter in 2011 and Marg Andrew in 2012. Although still working on a part time basis, we only see Diane Dodd during the summer, as she has joined the ranks of the snowbirds who visit warmer climates in the winter months. Our challenge and opportunity will continue to be hiring the right people, who will understand our members’ needs and have the technical skills to effectively and efficiently provide the service our members expect. We were very fortunate to have hired Margaret Williams as our new Manager of Lending in 2010, who came to us with years of credit union experience. I believe we have been successful in the past 12 months by adding Courtney Sandford to our ranks, along with two more recent employees, Gemma Edwin and Hilary Bakker. We will be introducing the newer members of our team in this issue of the newsletter to help you get to know them better. We also say goodbye to Michelle Daling, whom we will miss. My commitment to you, our members, is to make sure we hire the right people with the skills and demeanor that will support member service, our values, and our mission to be a strong progressive credit union, providing for its members excellent financial services in keeping with the principles and values of the Co-operative Movement. To ensure the financial health of our members, through wise savings, borrowing, investing and providing security of their assets. Michelle Daling is leaving the credit union to spend more time with her family. We are very sorry to see her go. She has been a positive ray of sunshine and a helpful dedicated employee. She says she is keeping all her business with the credit union and will be in often to visit. Best wishes from all of us Michelle! Gemma Edwin is a fourth year student at Trent University. She is in the process of completing her degree in Business Administration. While in school she served as the receptionist and secretary for the Trent Central Student Association. She is originally from St Lucia and is planning to make a career at the credit union. She wants to make Canada and Peterborough her new home. Courtney Sandford started with PCCU in early 2011 as a part time teller, having recently graduated from Fleming College. She came to us through a government sponsored apprenticeship program that provided partial compensation for her job. Although a little shy at first, Courtney has blossomed into a confident, capable member of the PCCU team who is willing to learn new things and help our members wherever she can. In her spare time, she enjoys going to movies and playing video games with her friends. Hilary Bakker is our newest team member. Most recently she worked as a customer service representative at Titles Bookstore. Prior to that, she had direct experience working at another local credit union. She holds an Honours BA Degree in Mathematics and Spanish from Trent University. She has also worked as a Math and English tutor.
