Women's 5K Classic Pink 16.2
What is the PINK 16.2?
A unique opportunity is available for YOU to participate this year
in the Women's 5K Classic on Saturday, October 18, 2014 AND
the Runner's World 1/2 Marathon (13.1 miles) on
Sunday, October 19, 2014. A collaboration between Runner's World and the Women's 5K
Classic allows women to not only support breast and other
female cancer research and education but to run both events
without having to choose one over the other. This brand new event
is one-of-a kind. Meet our ambassadors below who are PINK
enough to do the 16.2. For more information or to sign up, please go here:

Meet Our Ambassadors
Nicole Huff, Chief Compliance & Privacy Officer for
St. Luke's University Health Network, is PINK enough
to take on the 16.2 challenge. That's for sure.
When approached, Nicole did not hesitate to say
yes. As an advocate to help improve at risk disparities
for minority and underserved populations, she
completed her doctoral research where she explored an
association of social support among African American
breast cancer survivors, residing in Chicago, IL.
During the data collection phase, she met some
phenomenal survivors, who were challenged by their
health condition but had God's will to survive. A lot of
these women were single mothers with little to no social
support, but they were able to get treatment and
Nicole Huff
maintain a somewhat normal household as they cared
for their children. What strength and courage these women have!
She has never run a half marathon but she wants to be a part of the community
that is raising awareness and seeking solutions to eliminate this disease. She
embraces this challenge to complete the race with similar enthusiasm and
perseverance as the women who participated in her study and for people who
understand the breast cancer journey.
Nicole is also hoping that her son, who is one of her biggest supporters, will "run
her in" the last mile of the 1/2 marathon - Cheering each and every step along the
way!
Angela Long is the Vice President of Patient Care
Services and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Sacred
Heart HealthCare System. With over twenty five years
experience in various positions, she brings broad
nursing and health care management expertise to the
role. She has been vital to the successful revitalization
of a health system critical to the economic and health
needs of the Lehigh Valley region.
Angie was admittedly "volunteered" for the
challenge and not sure she was too excited about
running a 5K AND a 1/2 marathon over a weekend in
October. After meeting with the Women's 5K
Angie Long
representatives and finding out what her role would
be in increasing opportunities to raise funds for
female cancers in the Lehigh Valley, she jumped in with two feet.

Fortunately, our enthusiasm bolstered hers!
So thoughts of passing the baton to another colleague were dashed.
"A cancer diagnosis cannot be delegated," she stated. She would not
delegate her commitment to run. She is PINK enough to take on the
16.2 challenge.
Angie is excited about her training and has already enlisted her
daughter, Allyssa, a Penn State University sophomore, to train with her.
Allyssa will return home in October to participate with her mom supporting her the entire way.
Susan Aloi, Associate Executive Director, Specialty
Practices at Lehigh Valley Health Network, came to the
Lehigh Valley 4 years ago. The day she arrived, she
found out that her mother was diagnosed with breast
cancer. Despite the taxing journey that far too many
are familiar with - chemotherapy, biopsies, doctor's
appointments, surgery - she stood by her mom during
her fight. She is happy to report that her mother is in
remission.
Says Aloi, "The idea of running with my community,
representing LVHN and joining breast cancer survivors
is the right thing to do. I've never run a half-marathon
so I know that my body, mind and spirit will be
challenged as I train for that event in combination with
the 5K event. But remembering the courage my mother
showed during her treatment and recovery from breast
Susan Aloi
cancer, and her endurance on the tough days, I can't
wait to see her smiling face as I cross the finish lines at both events!"
With an extensive background in health care, leadership development and
academics, Susan Aloi, MPA, FACMPE, has spent the past 15 years immersed in the
dynamics of health care, as well as personal, interpersonal and organizational
change.
She is PINK enough to do the 16.2 - she likens the journey she will take as one full
of challenges yet discoveries. One's that she might not have unearthed otherwise. Sign up for the Challenge today!!
