Description
Free-Style King’s Court Sprint Race.
The 2017 Kanata Nordic Pretzel Race is an all-day free-style sprint event. The day
starts at 9 AM with a individual prologue sprint held over three race distances for
different ages & race categories. Three series of heats follow the prologue for each
race distance in the King’s Court format. All participants ski throughout the day
starting with the sprint prologue and then three sprint heats.
The format is King's Court for all distances and all categories.
Individual prologue sprints begin at 9:00 AM. Timed prologue results seed the
first round of King’s Court sprint heats. Sprint heats are not timed and heat results
are based solely on relative finishing position in each heat.
Each sprint heat will have up to 6 skiers. Starting order in the first round of heats is
based on prologue finish order for each distance. After each sprint heat, the first two
finishers advance up a level in the heats chart and the last two finishers move down
a level in the heats chart.
For competitive skiers, NCD points are awarded based on points from the prologue
times AND heats placements, but only if all three sprint heats are skied.
Mighty Mite & Atom categories as well as recreational Jackrabbit skiers ski the
Short 350m (Yellow) sprint course (Map-2). Midget and Peewee categories
compete on the Intermediate 600m (Blue) sprint course (Map-3). Juvenile and older
CCC race categories compete on the Long 1000m (Red) sprint course (Map-4).

Categories
CCC age categories and race distances follow CCC guidelines for long term athlete
development. Course distances and age categories are shown in Table-1 ‘Event
Distance Categories’ below. Junior Men and Women and older skier age categories
all ski in a combined Open race distance. Note that competitive skiers who “ski up”
from their age category, in this or any races in the NCD Race Series, cannot
combine points across age categories for their season total.
Seeding
For the prologue sprint, Atom to Open age categories will be seeded in each of
three course distances, in reverse order by year of birth, so that, for each distance,
the younger skiers start after the older skiers.
Sanction
NCD points will be awarded to competitive skiers based on points awarded from
finish time in the prologue sprint AND placing in ALL planned sprint heats. Athletes
must finish ALL planned heats to get NCD points.
Fees
Bib Pick-up
Atom, Mighty Mite & Jackrabbit (Yellow 350m course)
$20.
All other categories (Blue 600m & Red 1000m courses)
$25.
7:00-8:30 AM at the Main Building.
Athletes use the SAME bib during the day for the prologue sprint and all heats.
Skiers turned-in bibs at the end of the third heat or return or return them to the Race
Office if leaving earlier. A $50 fee must be paid to NCD for unreturned bibs.
Race Start
9:00 AM Prologue sprint. Heats follow 1 hour after the end of the
prologue.
All skiers MUST ski in the prologue sprint. Sprint heats will start about 10:45 AM
and the final heat will be completed by 3:00 PM. Awards are presented shortly
afterward.
Course
Course opens to competitors wearing bibs at 7:30 until 8:30 AM. Long
Waxing
This is a “Low Fluoro” wax event. No indoor waxing facilities will be available
onsite. Race participants WILL NOT use HF (High-Fluoro) or MF (Medium-Fluoro)
waxes, including HF or MF powders, pucks, blocks and liquids. This includes the
use of cold weather powder additives and hardeners.
Awards
Every athlete receives a chocolate covered pretzel at the prologue race finish line.
These are NOT guaranteed to be nut-free. Awards are presented near the front
steps of the main building about 15 minutes after the unofficial results are posted
around 3:00 PM. Two types of awards are presented:
1000m (Red Course), Intermediate 600m (Blue Course) and Short 350m (Yellow
Course) maps are attached to this race notice.
Year of Birth Awards (YOB) Awards are presented to the top male and female
finisher in each YOB for each of the categories listed in the Race Distance
Categories table below. YOB awards are awarded up to and including Junior Boys
and Junior Girls. YOB awards are based on the lowest event totals as follows:
Event Total = Prologue time + 1st heat place + 2nd heat place + 3rd heat place
CCC Race Category Awards will be presented in each race category to the top 3
male and female finishers based on the lowest event points totals.
