What’s Happening in Vocal Music?
Happy 2015!
Students are continuing to learn
and experience exciting things in
music class!
K: Kindergarten students reinforced their learning about
rhythm and beat by studying The
Nutcracker “Dance of the Sugar
Plum Fairy.” In the piece which
has the ‘form’ ABA, students
played the rhythm on the “A”
section and watched the live
Russian ballet on the “B” section.
They also did paper plate skating
to “The Skater’s Waltz” and
moved like cats and mice to “The
Chinese Dance” from the Nutcracker.
1st Grade: Besides doing similar
winter activities, 1st grade students are preparing for their
February 18th vocal music Informance. Mrs. Held’s class will
be featured moving with swim
noodle light-sabers to the beat of
“The Imperial March” from Star
Wars. Mrs. Locke’s class will be
featured creating an imaginary
painting with paint brushes and
colored scarves to “Trepak” the
Russian Dance from the Nutcracker.
2nd Grade: Students reinforced
their singing on sol-mi by doing
an interactive Smart Board lesson
on “Star Light, Star Bright” and
by creating “Cotton ball/
Snowball” melodies in which they
composed, played on an instrument and sang their sol-mi tunes.
They also played instruments to
“Jingle Bells” and moved to the
’form’ of “March” from the Nutcracker.
3rd Grade: Students are working
on a student growth goal of singing in tune by doing Smart Board
interactive lessons such as
“Whooo Do You Hear/” and
“Where’s the Firefly?” They are
also doing singing games and
composing/playing/singing sol, mi,
do, tunes to reinforce this goal.
4th Grade: Students continue
work on music for The Festival
Song concert planned for January
