Useful information about Kentish Pip Ciders
What is the ‘Stay fresh box’
Often called a Bag in Box this is a great way to package draught cider.
It consists of a double walled polythene bag with a dispensing tap
contained in a cardboard box.
No air can get into the container even when dispensed.
cider stays fresh for much longer (see below)
Therefore the
Our 3 and 5lt stay fresh boxes fit snugly into the fridge so that the
cider can be served chilled.
The 20lt (35 pints) stay fresh box is ideal for pubs because it can
simply be connected directly to a hand pull pump or an electric pump. Or
they can be placed on the bar and dispensed directly into a glass.
We can supply our trade customers with connectors, pump clips and other
point of sale materials free of charge.
We have redesigned our stay fresh boxes to be stronger and with a great
new look.
How do I connect lines to stay fresh boxes?
We can Supply you with a ‘Vitop’ Connector (free for trade or £1.50).
Use 3/8 inch braided hose and push into the connector. Insert a one way
check valve in the line to avoid contaminating the cider in the bag (John
Guest Part Number 15DCV). As check valves are 15mm you will need a 15mm
to 3/8inch stem reducer and a 3/8inch to 3/8 inch hose stem to fit to the
hose.
Double check valve with reducer and hose stem.

What is the best temperature for serving Kentish Pip?
Generally this is down to individual taste.
However, Mark (Kentish Pip’s chief cider maker) prefers Vintage Pip and
Forager at room temp; Craftsman fresh & cool (not too cold); Wild Summer
chilled; Firespice is delicious served warm but equally delicious on ice.
What is the shelf life?
Unopened: 6 months for a stay fresh box and 12-18 months for bottled see
best before end.
Opened: 4 weeks for stay fresh box; 3 days for still bottled cider if
refrigerated.
What additives are in your ciders?
The use of any additive in food and drink is governed by the UK Food
Standards Agency. Some additives or naturally occurring contents that are
recorded as allergens (such as sulphites) have to be shown on the label.
Suitable for Vegetarians
There are no animal or fish products in our ciders or products derived
from animals or fish.
Sugar We add sugar to sweeten the cider. The Guideline Daily Amount (GDA)
for sugar is 90 grams. As a guide, a litre of medium cider contains 20 to
26 grams of sugar, which when converted to energy is equivalent of 79.4
to 103.2 kilocalories (GDA for an adult is 2000kcal). (Source:
www.foodlabel.org.uk)
By comparison a litre of fresh blood orange juice would be the equivalent
of 500kcal.
Please note that the effect of sugar on health depends on the way you
metabolise it, and on the amount you exercise.
Citric acid & Malic acid
Occasionally we add citric acid or malic acid to some ciders to give them
a little more acidity, and a sharper taste if needed. Malic acid is very
common naturally in apples and grapes, and both ingredients are
permitted. Neither of them are recorded as being allergenic, although it
is noted that a very few people have recorded some level of intolerance.
Allergens
Contains Sulphites
All of our ciders contain sulphites which are used to reduce spoilage.
Sulphite use is strictly controlled by the Food Standards Agency and all
of our packs are labelled ‘contains sulphites’. Some people are allergic
to sulphites.
Gluten Free
There is no gluten in our ciders.
Nut Free
There are no nuts in our ciders.
What is pasteurisation?
Pasteurisation is a method of reducing the level of harmful bacteria in a
liquid to safe levels without compromising the flavour. This is achieved
by heating it to a known temperature for a known period of time.
Virtually all fruit juices and ciders including our own are pasteurised.
