PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS FOR
HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION (TEACHING)

The Professional Development Activities (PDA Hours) are hands-on learning experiences chosen by the
student to help build confidence, knowledge, and teaching skills in preparation for the professional
semester and student teaching placements. These hours should be real-life experiences that make the
student more fully aware of the profession, its demands and rewards.
1. You are required to complete all 60 PDA (Professional Development Activities) hours before
you present your Developing Portfolio (usually the semester before Professional Semester).
2. Your hours must be spent actively supervising or teaching students.
3. It is your responsibility to arrange for all the PDA experiences.
4. Obtain your advisor’s approval and signature on the HPE PDA approval form PRIOR to
completing the PDA hours.
5. Diversity Hours may be used as PDA Hours (if they meet the criteria listed below).
6. Once any hours are completed, the originals verification forms should be filed in a safe place.
7. Eventually, all PDA Hours should be scanned into your Developing Portfolio (in LiveText).
8. For the school setting experience a minimum of 30 hours must be completed. Use this form to
help keep track of the hours you complete.
