The Moggery Diary

The Moggery Diary
Dec 3rd
Tortie Holly was adopted by a Yate family today. They loved her on sight.
Dec 4th
Admitted Pepsi from a Horfield family who sadly were evicted from private
rented accommodation. (The family are priority to be rehomed by the councilthis is an unusual case and I told them to come back and claim their pet if they
receive an offer of a house soon)
Dec 5th
Aldi was chosen by a couple from Cotham today. (We will never know his history
before he was left in the supermarket car park. Sadly large car parks are being
increasingly used as dumping grounds for cats/kittens)
Dec 6th
Admitted tabby Robyn from a Longwell Green vet surgery. (She had been
handed in as a stray)
Dec 8th
Flapjack and Florentine (two ginger sisters of the Baker’s dozen) left to live in a
converted barn. They had just left when in the door came two kittens found in
Shirehampton. Black and white Pudding and ginger and white Brandy had been
sitting on peoples doorsteps asking to be taken in.
Dec 10th
New volunteer Laili adopted Corbet a tabby and white older kitten and Cracker
and Tinsel went off to live in Whitchurch.
Dec 11th
Surely the kitten season is over now? However I was asked to take in a group of
five kittens from Hartcliffe. Tabbys Prancer and Dancer came in with black
kittens Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph.
Dec 12th
A resident of Trowbridge rang. A tabby cat had obviously been left behind by the
previous tenant of his flat as she was crying outside asking to come in. No local
rescue had space so Lametta was brought to Bristol. This little tabby came in
very nervously and absolutely skin and bone.
Dec 15
Admitted black and white mother Noelle and her extremely stunted two black
kittens. Tiny Tim and Bob Crachitt. The doorbell rang and adopters asked if we
possibly had two black kitten brothers? I explained the kittens needed a lot of
building up as they were undernourished. The brothers were signed for and
taken home after being in H/Q just long enough to have lunch.
Dec 17th
After being featured on our website and Facebook page Pudding and Brandy
were snapped up today by a Westbury family.
18th Dec
Muffin (Muffy to her friends) the last of the Bakers Dozen) was taken home
today by volunteer Jenny. This little tortie will have two brothers to play with.
Dec 19th
Black Mum Bemmie and her two kittens Tika and Teanu left H/Q for a new home
in Ashton. Stacey left for Stoke Bishop and kittens Prancer and Donner went
together to a new Henleaze home.
Dec 20th
A young tabby Merry and her kits Chris and Tingle were admitted due to their
very elderly owner being unable to care for them. Dark tortie Angel was chosen
by a Warmley family.
Dec 24th
Rudolph ran up the leg of a prospective adopter today and nuzzled his ear. His
brother Blitzen followed suit and grovelled to the adult son of the family. Both
kittens were carried away to their new home in Bath. (The family had come for
two tabby sisters but Rudolph and Blitzen had other ideas and chose them)
Tabby Dancer and black Aiki also left today for Cliftonwood.
A toothless black and white OAP stray from Filton was admitted today as her
feeder was going away for Christmas. Gabrielle was placed in the OAP lounge.
Dec 25th and 26th
Normal hardworking days for the volunteers.
Dec 28th
Miss Silto. The first of the unwanted Christmas presents arrived. A London
relative gave the little tortie kitten as a surprise gift to a Central Bristol family.
(Who were not amused)
Dec 31st
Four adoptions in one day! Black and White Ronnie and Harry went to live in
Bedminster and black brother and sister Ruskin and Sylvie left for Ashton.
Jan 1st
Quiet day as the public presumed we are shut. Valiant volunteers come to clean
and feed as usual.
4th Jan
The first adoptions of the year. Grey and white Stu and tabby brother Steve
(who had been born in a garden in Staple Hill) were chosen by a family from St
George.
5th Jan
New volunteer Carly began today. Carly is an artist and a trained dancer who
also works as a film extra. (We have volunteers from all walks of life now as we
gained a stilt walker in 2015)
Jan 7th
Admitted two young female cats, Nova who is black and Godina who is ginger
and white are the first admissions of 2016.
Jan 8th
The doorbell rang this afternoon. I wasn’t expecting a visitor so I opened the
door cautiously. A middle aged man with long grey hair and a black coat and hat
leaned in. I didn’t invite him in but went outside in the rain with my notebook to
write details of the problem. ‘I’ve got too many cats’ he said. ‘How many’ I
asked and he began to name them. I explained I didn’t need their names just
numbers and ages so I could arrange their neutering. He then unfolded an A4
sheet and explained he had written a song detailing how the cats had come into
his life and their dates of birth. He began singing to the tune of ‘Maggie May’ by
Rod Stewart. (When the song was finished I arranged to go to his Lockleaze
home at 3pm on the 11th to collect the first two cats for neutering.
9th Jan
The Filton Aquaria pet shop customers kindly donated a large box of cat food for
our Christmas dinner appeal. I collected the much needed tins and pouches
today.
10th Jan
Was absolutely thrilled to receive a letter containing photos of Alfie and Hetty a
brother and sister adopted 10 years ago. They had been trapped with their
heavily pregnant mother and were completely feral in 2005. They now are
having a happy life in Thornbury.
11th Jan
Admitted another OAP this afternoon. The owner has died, her house is being
sold and no one in the family can give the old girl a home. Mitzi was installed in
the OAP lounge. (The large tabby and white is a bit cross about being here.)
Called at the house with the ‘too many cats’ to discover the situation. A stray cat
had had kittens in June in the shed. The mother cat had a second litter in
September, all the family were now in the house. I basketed the original mother
to take her to be spayed but her June kittens were loose in the garden. I asked
the householder to entrust me with the five Sept kittens but sadly he only
agreed to give me three for rehoming. When I return mum cat tomorrow I’ll try
to catch one of the older kits.
12th Jan
Torpee a lovely affectionate grey cat was brought to The Moggery because her
owner had died. She had lived in the same house for 19 years. Mitzy the sister
of a volunteer has agreed to give her a foster home. We are thrilled as she is
such a sweetie.
