Dear 8th Grade Families,
The end of the 2016-2017 school year is in sight, and it will be here before we know it. This 8th grade contract was
designed to provide 8th grade students and their parents with important information about our end of the year
expectations regarding academic performance, behavioral expectations, and to inform every one of the planned
activities for our 8th grade students. This year, all eligible 8th grade students will have the opportunity to attend:
1.
The 8th Grade Dance ($10.00) May 19 7-9:30 PM
2.
Blue Crabs Stadium Picnic ($25.00) June 5
3.
8th Grade Promotion Ceremony June 8 9:30 AM
1.) This year’s 8th Grade Dance will be on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 7-9:30 pm. Snacks will be provided at the dance.
Mrs. Hart, the 8th grade teachers, and a group of parent volunteers always help to make the event beautifully
decorated. The theme of the dance will be Hollywood Movie Night. Students must be present at school for a full day on
Friday, May 19, in order to attend the dance. This is an evening reserved for Margaret Brent Middle School 8th graders
ONLY. No guests from other schools or grade levels may attend. This is a semi-formal dance; typically girls wear nice
dresses, and boys wear shirts with collars and ties. No shorts or jeans are permitted. Young ladies wearing strapless
dresses, halter tops and/or spaghetti straps must have a jacket or sweater to cover the shoulders for the entire evening.
Please follow the school dress code policy. Parents willing to help with set up, decorating, food preparation and cleanup should contact the dance coordinator, Tammy Hart, at [email protected].
2.) The Blue Crabs Stadium Picnic will take place on Monday, June 5, 2017. More details of the picnic will be provided
closer to the date of the trip. The fee for the picnic will be $25.00 and includes transportation and your choice of
chicken tenders, hot dogs or cheeseburgers, chips, refillable soft drinks or water, and ice cream. Students will also have
access to the field, park attractions, paddle board boats, sumo suits, legends club, and the climbing rock wall. Dress code
policy will need to be followed during this event as it is a school-sponsored activity. If there are any questions, please
contact Ms. Poston ([email protected]) or Ms. Hart ([email protected]).
3.)
The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held in the Chopticon High School Gym at 9:30 am on Thursday, June
8, 2017. Students should dress appropriately and in accordance with the school dress code; business attire is
recommended (dresses, skirts, slacks, and button down shirts). No jeans, shorts, or t-shirts please. Tickets are required
for entrance to this event and ticket order forms have already been distributed. There is no charge for these tickets.
Space is limited, so we ask that strollers remain outside the gymnasium. Students should not bring anything to school on
this day and should have taken their personal belongings home the day before the ceremony. It is extremely important
for students to arrive at MBMS on time, as buses will transport students to CHS for the ceremony. Upon arrival, parents
will be asked to present photo identification and will obtain a folder with their child’s certificates and awards. This folder
will serve as the official MBMS sign out and you are free to take your child with you at the completion of the ceremony.
Any student who departs Chopticon with their parents should not return to MBMS. Those students that are not picked
up by their parents after the ceremony will return to MBMS by bus.
Eligibility to attend the end of year activities is at the discretion of the administration in the areas of discipline/behavior,
academic success, and attendance. All 8th grade library debts must be clear prior to attending each activity.
