This invention relates to one-piece paper cups,

storing or dispensing them from a machine.
More particularly, the invention relates to ya
novel structure of the upper or li-p portion of the
cups whereby that portion provides greater com
fort and ease of drinking when‘ engaged by the
lips of the user. Furthermore, the novel struc
bead.

While ‘in the preferred form the cup is shown
with a hollow in the center of thebead, it is not
the intention to thus limit the invention, for a
solidly rolled bead may be used with equal advan

invention, and the invention will be more particu
larly pointed out in the appended claims.

Further objects, features and advantages of the
invention will appear from the following speci?ca
tion and claims, taken in connection with the
accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the cup ; and
Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view show 30
ing in more detail the upper or lip portion of the
cup viewed along the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
'
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawing, the cup
shown is formed from a circular disc of relatively
thin paper of a character well understood by those
skilled in the art. The disc is folded, by well
known mechanism, into cup form providing a substantially circular bottom I and pleated side wall
2. The pleats 3, commencing at the junction of
to the bead ii, which presses down upon the inner
vrim of the lower lip forming a seal between the
cup and the lip. The portion of the bead offset
above the upper surface of the ?ange 5 enables
the upper lip of the user to grip the cup and,
while holding it between the lips, press the lip
portion down upon the lower lip to effect the
above-mentioned seal formed by' the under sur
face of the bead 6.
Furthermore, the outwardly ?aring ?ange in
combination with the particular formation of the
bead provides improved rigidity at the lip of the
cup and materially strengthens the cup side wall
structure.
Having thus described my invention with par-‘
ticularity with reference to a preferred embodi

in the art, after understanding my invention, that

What I claim is:
of the lip. This ?ange extends upwardly and out
wardly from the point 4 and terminates in a pro
nounced head or rolled edge 6.

As will be noted in Fig. 2, the rolled edge 6 is
substantially circular in cross section and is offset
a substantially equal distance from the upper and
lower surfaces of the ?ange portion 5 so as to
provide a substantial overhang of the respectively '
