PADUA PARENT GROUP Minutes of Meeting Thursday, 1 December 2016 Mornington Campus – St Clare Centre PRESENT: Sarah Hansen, Michael Harrison, , Lorraine Hickey, Corinna Landman, Michele Mooney, Liz Murgia, Deirdre Snooks, Annette Wetherill, , APOLOGIES: Marie Boundy, Sam Cosentino, Julie Floyd, Anna Kay, Francesca McLoughlin, Louise Piva, Wayne Smith, The meeting commenced at 7.30pm with Michael welcoming those present. STRATEGIC PLANNING MEETING: Michael began the meeting by asking all members to put their thoughts down into three groups: Those things the Parent Group currently does which should be continued; Those things the Parent Group currently does which should NOT be continued; Those things the Parent Group currently does NOT do, but which we should look at. EVENTS WHICH SHOULD CONTINUE: Community Cooking Group: Liz Murgia put her name down some time ago to be Parent Group contact person for the Community Cooking Group. She is still very keen to take on this role and liaise with Anne‐Marie Houlihan. Anne‐Marie is not prepared to be on the Parent Group but is still keen to be involved as the head of the group. Liz will be the contact on the Parent Group for the Community Cooking Group. The group is working well with minimal involvement needed from anyone except Michele Fatchen (Food Technology assistant who organises all of the purchasing of food and setting up of the night). A Community Cooking Group Report was presented. Parent Forum: These have always worked well in the past with the formula of a big keynote speaker one year, and a panel of experts in the alternative year. Arthurs Seat Challenge: Liz is still keen to be involved but to hand over the reins to Anna Kay who has worked alongside Liz for some time. Perhaps we can harness the Cooking Group Database for volunteers for the ASC this year? Information Nights: The Parent Group would love to speak about the wonderful work done by the group at the Year 7 Information Nights and/or House Welcome Evenings. Michael will put this to Leadership. A different person at each campus would be ideal. This needs to be scripted and well presented. EVENTS WHICH SHOULD NOT CONTINUE: BBQ & Catering As much as the Parent Group felt that this was a very worthy endeavour and a great way to get involved with the students, there has been considerable difficulty over the last couple of years in getting volunteers to events. 1 We need clear direction from the school as to what is required, if anything, from tee Parent Group with respect to this. Sarah will speak with Events and Catering Manager, Deb Clarke, about this. Environmental Group: Perhaps this group would be better served as a Tyabb initiative as that campus, being a new campus, is the one that needs the most assistance. Perhaps Sam Cosentino should brief Paul Fairlie on these issues. NEW EVENTS/IDEAS: Social Event – This must be affordable and open to all. Most of all, a social event needs a purpose or charity to raise funds for. International Women’s Day – It was decided that this needed more research and that the Parent Group should perhaps work on this for 2018. Golf Day – Something for the men in our community. Market Night – Perhaps the funds could go to Breast Cancer awareness, McAuley Women’s Shelter (Sisters of Mercy). This could be on 12 May or 18 May near Mother’s Day. Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day events Padua College Alumni – Marcelle Ryan (Publicity) is currently looking in to this. Spirituality Evenings for Parents – Ang Virgona to run the evening and Michael Harrison to organise. OTHER BUSINESS: STRUCTURE OF PARENT GROUPS AND MEETING SCHEDULE: There should be two Padua Parent Group meetings each term. If a member is unable to make a particular meeting, it means that there could be six months between seeing the committee members and reporting on portfolios. They need to be on alternate days so that parents can work around schedules. Perhaps there should be a 45 minute group discussion at the beginning of each meeting, followed by the group breaking in to individual groups to discuss portfolios. After this discussion, the entire group would form together again for a brief recap. All Mornington meetings are to be held at the St. Clare Centre. Caremonkey to be sent out for first meeting date ONLY. SUGGESTIONS: There should be a list of contact names on the website for parents to contact. This should include the entire leadership structure from Principal, VPs, DPs, Campus Co‐Ordinators, and Pastoral Co‐Ordinators. This is important for parents. Everyone on the Padua Parent Group should have an email list of other parents. But all matters to do with the school should go through the School Liaison, Sarah Hansen. Next meeting is to be held on Wednesday 22 February 2017 at 7:30pm at the MORNINGTON CAMPUS (St Clare Centre) 2
