European Boundary Changes from before World War II to the Early
Years of the Cold War
The map below shows the political boundaries changes from 1938 to 1948 in
Eastern Europe. These eastern European countries such as Poland that were
satellite states of the Soviet Union along with the Soviet Union were known
as the Eastern Bloc.
Note: SSRs are Soviet Socialist Republics and RSFSR is Russian Soviet
Federative Socialist Republic or more commonly Soviet Russia or simply
Russia. The SSRs and RSRSR together made up the Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics (USSR).
