Goal: to provide individual strategies for challenging behaviors that are corrective and
positive for teaching new skills.
This training will begin with a review of some basic behavior intervention information that
is critical for all strategies impacting children with challenging behavior. While behavior
modification principles are a basis for changing a child’s behavior into something more
appropriate, there is a limit to its long-term effectiveness and use with young children.
This session will provide a variety of strategies and ways of thinking about challenging
behavior that incorporates teaching of new behaviors while giving children increased selfcontrol and self regulation. Anyone faced with the opportunity of working with young
children who present behaviors that can be frustrating, worrisome, annoying, dangerous, or
anything else you define as challenging, will benefit from this training. As usual, the use of
real life examples accompanied by humor and fun will be included to promote strategies
that may not always be those used in the “heat of the moment”. The day promises to fly
by with engaging information and activities.
Participants will:
understand differences between Cycles of Punishment + Conflict Cycle.
describe Instructive Praise.
apply the steps in Corrective Teaching.
understand the ingredients of behavior intervention.
differentiate between strategies of stabilization and reframing.
think 3 C’s of behavior situations.
differentiate between invasive and non-invasive strategies.
apply behavior intervention strategies to challenging behaviors
