Boxed Macbeth
A spine-chilling adaptation of Shakespeare’s play.
For years 9, 10 & 11
Length: Performance 60-65 minutes with workshop 25-30 minutes
This spine-chilling adaptation of Shakespeare’s play uses an
imaginative and seamless combination of original text and
modern-day speech, with a stunning set that entangles the
performers directly in Macbeth’s fatal web of corruption.
Three actors use modern language and physical theatre to
chart the devastating effect that one act of evil can have on
honorable and loyal man. Throughout the performance the
actors come out of character to engage with the audience to
discuss what they are watching and what choices they would
make if they were faced with the same circumstances. This
interactivity ensures that the students are fully engaged in the
production, characters and plot.
Using language that will help the students with their GCSE
assignments, will understand the consequences of the
actions of the central characters, be able to discuss the relationships in the play, the changes
that happen to the characters and to write about the effects a disturbed character can have.
Workshop
The performance is followed by a 40-minute interactive workshop with the whole audience,
supporting students’ learning in line with the requirements of exam boards. The workshop
focuses of characterization, the language and the staging of the play, building confidence in
the students but it can be tailored to the individual needs of individual school.

What size space do I need?
Ideally a main school assembly hall, theatre or drama hall. We prefer not to perform in a
school gym or sports hall owing to the potentially poor acoustics. We need a space that is at
least 6m x 6 m with two power points. We need access to the space at least 60 minutes
before and after the performance.
How many students can attend?
The audience can be as large as 150.

Can we tailor the workshops?
Yes, we can deliver a bespoke workshop focusing on particular areas of difficulty for your
students.
Can I get a discount if I book more than one show?
Yes, we have discount packages available for multiple bookings. We also reward early
booking.
Can we have multiple year groups attending the performance?
Unfortunately this is not possible. As the post-show workshop is uniquely tailored to their
level of study it’s important the students are all from one year group.
Does this performance relate directly to the curriculum?
Yes. Our performances and workshops are designed to work in line with the exam boards.
Our Head of Development, an ex-English teacher, researches the key assessment criteria for
the main boards and ensures that these are covered in the workshop.
