Dear Parent,

Mrs. Lowery’s Discipline Plan
Dear Parents,
Your child’s CITIZENSHIP GRADE ON THIER REPORT CARD is based on their daily
behavior and the return of their homework on time each week. Behavior is recorded daily,
and reported to you in your child’s agenda/calendar. Also there is a weekly progress report
which requires a parents’ signature and is due on Mondays as part of the homework grade.
It is very important for students to try their best each day because at the end of each
nine weeks AND also at the end of the school year, students with good citizenship are
eligible for CITIZENSHIP AWARDS (certificates, ribbons, medallions, etc.) Please refer to the
Carver handbook in your child’s agenda for details.
Below I have explained in detail our CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR PLAN and how your child’s
citizenship grade is calculated.
Also attached is a simplified consequence form which I need for you to sign stating you have
read, understand, and agree with our behavior plan.
Our behavior plan is explained below:
Smart Kid Cone / Green-Ready to Learn :
Students always begin each day with their gingerbread man on Green/Ready to
Learn. Also, on their desk, they will have what we call the “smart kid cone”. It is simply
a plastic mini cone they keep on their desk as a reminder that if they have good
behavior, they will receive a treat at the end of the day.
1st warning –
Students are verbally warned once and rules reviewed with no consequences. This is
their last chance to change their behavior, before receiving consequences.
2nd warning–
Students must turn in their “smart kid cone” and he/she loses their treat for the day.
3rd warning –
Students have already been given two chances to make better choices, but if they
continue they will have to move their gingerbread man to yellow. Students will be
given a consequence of the teacher’s choice. Examples of consequences are: loss of
time at recess or computer time, separation from the class (sitting away from group),
etc.
4th warningStudents who continue to make wrong choices must move their gingerbread man to
red. I will contact you to discuss your child’s behavior, the student will be given
additional consequences and if necessary, the student will be sent to discuss their
behavior and additional consequences with the Principal.

EXCEPTIONS – I firmly believe in and expect good moral behavior in my classroom. It is a
BIG deal! Students who lie, steal, cheat or disrespect others or property (hitting, kicking,
spitting, being verbally disrespectful, writing in or tearing books, etc.) can be (and most likely
will) skip straight to Red- Parent Contact (and possible trip to the Principal’s Office) without
warnings.
My motto is “Catch ‘em Being Good”. Therefore, I frequently reward Good Behavior in
an effort to promote positive choices. Students may be rewarded for having extra-special
positive behavior. A few examples of extra-special behavior are: helping another student,
being a good friend to others, doing an excellent job on their paper, having the cleanest
desk on surprise inspection, etc. Students who are “caught” being good role models may
earn special privileges such as sitting at the teacher’s desk, choosing a friend in another
class to eat lunch with, bringing a stuffed animal to class, extra computer time, and etc.
The Simplified Version of the Behavior Plan:
Green/Smart kid cone: Excellent behavior, Ready to Learn –daily reward !
Loss of smart kid cone - loss of daily reward
Yellow – Teacher’s Choice- loss of privilege
Red- loss of privilege, parent contact and/or Principal’s Office
How the citizenship grade is calculated for the report card:
S–Satisfactory
N -Needs Improvement
U –Unsatisfactory
Each week the student will receive a grade of S, N or U for citizenship as detailed below. At
the end of the nine weeks, the weekly behavior grade and homework grades are averaged for
the final citizenship grade.
To earn an S for the week- Student must have at least three Green days, no more than two
Yellow and no Red days to earn an S in citizenship.
To earn an N for the week– Student must have at least two Green days, no more than two
yellow, and no red days to earn an N in citizenship.
To earn a U for the week– if a student has three or more yellow days or if the student has any
red days, the student earns a U in citizenship.
