Winter 2015 Newsletter Ignite your personal leadership Are you prepared to play with your personal and organizational boundaries? If so, this year’s CUYLM Conference is the place to be! But why the question about boundaries? Simply this . . . This year’s CUYLM conference will fill you up with ideas and possibilities on how you can grow as a young leader and provide opportunities to explore how this learning can be applied to grow your credit union and better serve its members, too. Purpose will focus the direction of your growth; Potential will provide insight into what you could achieve personally and organizationally; and Passion will fuel your actions. So here’s the challenge. On Friday, April 17th you will be back at work and there you will become aware of boundary conditions that may restrict your ability to implement what you learned. Some of those boundaries may be imposed by the regulator; some by your organizational policies and procedures; some by your immediate supervisor or manager; and some by your own particular approach to your role as a leader. There are boundaries you must play within. Those imposed by legislation, the regulator, current market conditions and other legal/ethical boundaries are generally immoveable (or at least extremely difficult to shift). They can easily consume a great deal of energy with little hope of change. Fortunately, there are other boundaries you can play with. These may include past practices that are no longer relevant, assumptions about how to get things done in the organization, identification of potential collaborators and perhaps even self-perceptions you hold about your own abilities as a leader. Playing with the moveable boundaries exposes opportunities for young leaders to change themselves and their organizations. It means challenging the status quo, challenging one’s own limits and being able to exercise courage in pursuit of better ways to lead oneself and others. Be a “Boundary Hunter”! Come to the conference with some boundaries you would like to play with, that will give you more scope for igniting the personal leadership that will help your credit union, its members and the entire Manitoba credit union system really ROCK! CUYLM Winter 2015 Newsletter CUYLM @ MB Central Fall System Meeting November 14th CUYLM was given another incredible opportunity by Credit Union Central of Manitoba to present at the Credit Union Central Fall system meeting. Some keys areas we reviewed were what is CUYLM, how our projects contribute to the MB Credit Union System and we highlighted how CUYLM has added value to the system. We utilized technology called “Poll Everywhere” to collect information from our credit union and system leaders. This information is extremely valuable when establishing what is important to our system leaders and how CUYLM can add value. The information collected was used to develop our 2015 action plan and prioritize an order in which to accomplish our short and long term goals. We called on credit union executives, leaders, young leaders and credit union central of Manitoba executives to film a short video on what CUYLM has done for them. The results were astounding we were so honored to hear from our peers and leaders on what CUYLM is to them or has encouraged them to do personally or professionally! We shared these videos proudly at the meeting and we look forward to sharing them with you shortly on our website. Tell Ottawa My Credit Union Matters!
