ABOUT
THE LAB
The Energywise Lighting Laboratory is offering complete photometric, electric and thermal testing
of light sources and luminaires.
The lab is equipped with the full range of photometric equipment, including two goniometers, 2.4m
diameter integrating sphere, 1.2m wide thermal incubator oven and thermal imaging instruments.
With over 60 man years of combined lighting experience, the legacy of learning and evolution in
accuracy is at the core of Energywise and fuelled by the passion of the technicians who run this
department.
Our team has been involved in every aspect of lighting from design and manufacture with research
into the latest light sources, reflective and diffusion materials, analysis and performance parameters
for project optimisation and efficiency using the laboratory to aid in all of these fields.
Our laboratory team has attended SABS training in these disciplines and all our technicians have
passed with distinction. We are continually streamlining our processes to achieve the current level
of accuracy which we stand proudly by.
R&D and
LIGHTING DIVISION
PRIMARY LAB INSTRUMENTS
Full scale Goniometer paired with Gigahertz-Optic Spectrometer Sensor for measuring photometric performance
of all types of luminaires and light sources up to 1.5m
diameter.
2.4m diameter Integrating Sphere paired with Ocean
Optics Spectrometer Sensor for measuring lumen output
and spectral properties of light sources up to 1.5m
diameter.
Lab equipment also includes Illuminace Meters, including
Scotopic/Photopic Meter; Power Analyzer Meters; Incubator Oven and Thermal Camera.
LUMINAIRE DESIGN
SolidWorks 3D Design
SolidWorks is a fully immersive 3D design software that
allows for quick and accurate luminaire design and visualization.
The software can create realistic renderings to present
clients with an image of how their product will look before
a prototype is made.
Designs made from start to finish in 3D can be exported
into traditional CAD format for manufacturing or into STEP
files for seamless input into the Photopia software.
Photopia Reflector design and luminaire analysis
Photopia is a fast and accurate photometric analysis
program. Reflectors can be designed within the software
or imported from SolidWorks and analyses of their performance is quick and astonishingly accurate.
This powerful software allows reflector design from
scratch, visually aiding the technical team in manipulating
the parameters to achieve the desired distribution.
Reflector dimensions can then be exported into traditional
CAD format for functioning.

PORTABLE SPECTROMETER
& LIGHT METER
The Energywise Portable Spectrometer is a state of
the art mini spectrometer with the full functionality of
its larger counterparts.
At only 80mm wide the entire device fits in the palm
of your hand. This device is driven by smart-phone or
tablet software and is capable of measuring colour
temperature, CRI, Illuminance, CIE, SP Ratio and
Spectrum.

PORTABLE MINI
GONIOMETER
The Energywise Portable Briefcase Goniometer is
one of the latest editions to our photometric arsenal.
The instrument is housed inside a standard sized
briefcase, allowing for remote luminaire testing.
This mini goniometer measures lumen, beam angle,
CRI, colour temperature, Power factor and lumen per
watt all in under 5 minutes.
Additional functionality and ease of use far surpasses
that of any other available hand-held spectrometer,
with the power to compare multiple results and even
to find irregularities through filtered measurements.
The results are compiled in a comprehensive report
which can be printed, saved in PDF format or
E-mailed instantly together with an LDT electronic file
(as seen below).
The accompanying software gives the user the
power to apply multiple filters, display graphical
comparisons and E-mail the results whilst still on site.
This device is aimed at the use of Designers and
Architects, Engineers and Educators alike.
The goniometer is calibrated with an integrated STS
Ocean Optics Spectrometer, with a lumen range of
10-10,000 lumens from light sources of a diameter
up to 80mm.
Operating from battery and weighing only 76g it’s an
ideal measurement tool for all areas, from offices to
warehousing, to construction sites and all those hard
to reach indoor spaces.
The briefcase automatically factors in ambient background light in its testing procedure, making it possible to measure light sources in any environment. It is
truly the perfect instrument to take to sight or to a
client’s offices.

readings in spaces which would normally be
