Science…
We will be continuing to
focus on living things and
their habitats this half
term. We will be
observing, researching
and recording features
of a range of leaves
found in our local
environment, describing
the key characteristics
of unusual living things
from around the world
and then use these
descriptions of features,
and online research, to
attempt to classify
unusual living things.
English…
We will be starting the half term by looking
at stories from other cultures. We will be
using the oral story of Zerina and the Dev
to write an epilogue, focusing on sentence
structure, developing atmosphere
integrating dialogue. We will then be using
our Inquiry topic of earthquakes as a
stimulus to create an explanation text on
why earthquakes happen and finally a
persuasive piece to persuade people to
leave an earthquake zone.
PSHE…We are focusing on healthy
bodies and healthy eating. We will
be looking at the benefits of
healthy eating, eating a balanced
diet and the effects of exercise
of our body.
PE/Games…
We will be working on Netball and Dance.
They will be playing competitive games and
applying basic principles suitable for passing
and receiving. And in dance they are looking
at using a range of movement patterns.
Maths…
During the half term, we will be focusing on place
value, calculations and algebra. We will then
apply these skills for different areas such as
fractions, decimals and percentages. We are also
focusing on developing number sense and using it
to help support their mathematical thinking. This
is being taught through interactive and creative
sessions taught daily.
DT/Art – This will be
closely linked with
our Inquiry where we
will design our own
mountain range and
then design and
create an earthquake
proof structure
RE…
We will be looking at who Siddhartha Gautama was and how he became
Buddha, what Buddhists believe, and how Buddhists worship, whilst also
giving them the chance to think about the similarities of Buddhism with
other world religions and getting them to ponder what they believe
about life, death and everything in between.
Year 5/6 Spring 1st half term

This half term the children in Year 5/6 will be taking on a
historical and geographical Inquiry into Earthquakes
Spanish…
We will be looking at food and drink.
We will be learning new vocabulary,
understanding and giving instructions
and asking and answering questions.
Inquiry… We will be looking at Earthquakes – what
causes earthquakes, what happens during an
earthquake, what it is like to live in an earthquake
zone and how to survive an earthquake. This will
include using researching, drama, scientific
explanations and lots of writing opportunities.
