Can be man or a woman! Constitution did not specify! January 26, 2014 POWERS OF THE POTUS -Carry out laws passed by Congress -Commander in Chief of military -Make treaties (with approval of Senate) with other nations -Nominate ambassadors and Supreme Court Justices -Grant pardons to people who broke laws January 26, 2014 POTUS NEEDS HELP! January 26, 2014 POTUS has departments to help! -Each department head makes up the president's "cabinet" or special advisors -Some deparments are: The Department of Education Food and Drug Administration Health and Human Services January 26, 2014 Current Cabinet January 26, 2014 TROUBLE January 26, 2014 Impeachment If POTUS commits certain crimes they can be removed from office -H.O.R. decides whether or not to charge the POTUS -Senate acts as the Jury Two presidents have been impeached Johnson and Clinton (Both found innocent Johnson by ONLY 1 VOTE!). Nixon would have been impeached but resigned before the H.O.R. could vote (THEORETICAL CONSTITUTIONAL PROBLEM WITH V.P.!!!!!!) January 26, 2014
