Data and traffic analysis mode – all the obtained data is displayed simultaneously
Playback mode – the obtained data is played back in real time or on the fast time scale with the set

•
•
The monitoring mode allows real time object monitoring. Using archive data requires availability of the local
database recording option or the Transas AIS Network Database Server component. In traffic analysis mode
and playback mode, the ship motion data and AIS text telegrams for a certain time interval are selected from
the AIS database according to the set criteria. The obtained data is displayed on top of the electronic charts in
the following way:
TrAN Viewer has four operating modes – monitoring mode and three modes for analysing archive data: data
analysis, traffic analysis and playback.
AIS transponder
•
TrAN Viewer data can be obtained from the following sources:
• AIS Network
• AIS receiver
Vessel targets (AIS Class A and Class B)
•
TrAN Viewer enables real-time monitoring, as well as the display and analysis of the archive AIS data (including
text telegrams) on the following objects:
TrAN Viewer complies with all IMO and IEC recommendations.
The Transas AIS Network (TrAN) Viewer software is intended for the reception, display, recording and analysis
of data from different AIS sources. It is designed for use in small ports, by rescue services and AIS Network
users. The System can observe several thousand objects in the real time mode by using a standard computer.

The following functionality is available using the AIS Target Table:
AIS Target Table
The AIS target table consists of five tabs: Ships class A, Ships class B, Base
Stations, SAR aircraft and AtoNs.
Vessel type mask defining the vessel type and dangerous cargo

Setting Filters on geographical area for received AIS messages
Filtration of the received AIS messages on the set geographical area
is provided in the monitoring mode. These areas are named “filtering
zones”. To set a filtering zone should be created the chart object - an area
or a sector. Filtering zones can be changed. When changing a filtering
zone the list of the targets, telegrams, AIS base stations are cleared. The
current condition of the data filtration is displayed in a special panel on
the status bar.
Selecting a Target or Target Group with Cursor
Selection of a vessel target in the chart window puts focus on this
target in the Targets table. Special settings are provided for the display
of selected targets, allowing the observer to select any of particular
interest.
The number of sets of criteria is unlimited. Each set is associated with
a special symbol colour used for highlighting the vessel target in the
Сhart Window.
MMSI mask (three first digits defining the ship’s flag)
The following set of criteria may apply:
•
Data panel with a position report for each track point
•
•
Target history track line with track points and time marks
•
Highlighting Ship Symbols
Highlighting ship symbols functionality allows location monitoring of a
certain group of targets, satisfying a given set of criteria, by emphasizing
them with a colour.

TrAN Viewer offers a set of multiple instruments for classification,
highlighting and filtration purposes. The following functionality is
available in all modes.
Classification and Filtration
• Telegrams sorted by the sender ship
• All the telegrams in order of receipt
Telegrams are shown in the window in two ways:
AIS Telegrams Presentation
The TrAN Viewer supports all the types of AIS telegrams: binary and
safety related, addressed and broadcast. The TrAN Viewer shows received
telegrams in the Telegrams window.
The following parameters of the vessel target symbol display can be
adjusted:
Scalable triangular symbol or ship contour which appears on large
scales, provided information on the ship dimensions is available. The
symbol is oriented by the heading over an Electronic Navigational
Chart
•
Vessel targets are shown as follows:
Target Presentation in Chart Window
The chart window contains electronic charts which serve as a background
for the display of vessel targets, AIS Base Stations, AtoNs and SAR aircraft.
Symbols of different shapes are used for their display.
AIS data is presented in Chart Window over Electronic charts and in
Target table format.

This functionality enables support of Inland AIS functionality. The
following additional functions are supported for the ships transmitting
Inland specific data:
Inland AIS Functionality
This functionality enables AIS data and Navigational Alarms recording
into local TrAN Viewer Database. There is the possibility to define the
scope of recording data by message types (Class A, Class B, AotN, AIS
BS, SAR aircrafts, AIS telegrams, Alarms). The recording depth is also
adjustable. For retrieval of recorded data the “Database Analysis” and
“Playback” modes of TrAN Viewer can be used.
Local Data Recording Functionality
Additional actions can be associated with the event: executing of
application, sending of addressed AIS message to the ship or sending of
SMS and/or E-Mail message to defined recipient.
The events are displayed in the Alarms table, as popup window
(adjustable), on the chart window and can be accompanied with sound
(adjustable).
The events can be configured in three levels with different display
options: Alarm, Warning and Info.

Traffic analysis mode – the ship’s traffic density is displayed
on the chart by colour. The brighter colour indicates the
higher density traffic. The geographical coordinates and
value of traffic can be obtained in each point of traffic
density using the mouse. The traffic density is updated
when changing a chart scale and bounds of the displayed
area.
Playback mode – data on the vessel target motion within
the selected time interval is displayed in the Chart Window at a rate which corresponds to the real time
motion, or on the fast time scale with the set acceleration ratio (up to 1000).
