Our Social
Impact
Warehouse
The Weston operations site has been working with several local high schools assisting them with student
work placements. As a result one student is currently being processed to begin working on the site with
another expressing an interest for employment in the new year. Two young men started first time
employment earlier in the year; both are showing significant abilities to adapt to work life with one taking
on full time work. All of the feedback from the parents and carers has been extremely positive.
Another key achievement this year has been in conjunction with our warehouse partners Wine Selectors.
Several of our supported employees have started working directly alongside Wine Selectors staff in a
more technical roll with minimal support provided. This is aimed at
the possibility of Wine Selectors being able to offer open
employment positions in the future.

Olive Trees
A labour hire enquiry from a local olive grove in
late 2011 has now quickly evolved to a new
business venture for Endeavour. An opportunity
arose to buy 140,000 olive trees at a heavily
discounted price from a nursery in Victoria.
Feasibility and due diligence was completed
after visiting the nursery, establishing the
viability of the project and the decision was
made to proceed in February.
By the end of March the finial shipment arrived with all
of the trees unpacked and stored at the Weston site.
Over the past few months we have commenced
remediation of the trees which includes watering,
fertilising, pruning, staking and re-potting as required.
This remediation work has given employees additional
work to complete during down time on the wine
packaging site as well as providing new employment
and volunteer opportunities.
Laundry
Each year the hardworking team in the Laundry at Cessnock celebrate the exceptional performance of team
members.
At the end of 2011 two ladies received
nominations for the Employee Achievement
Cheryl has been with
the laundry team for over 20 years and Judy
Award for the year.
for about 2 years. Both were very thrilled with
their nomination for their excellent work over
the year and the rewards this brings. Cheryl was
rewarded for both the nomination and winning
the annual Achievement Award.
Both Judy and Cheryl set an excellent example
for other employees and are both very proud of
their achievements.
Another success story in the ADE is tinged with sadness as shown in
Anne-Marie.
the photograph taken at the farewell of
Anne-Marie has worked in the laundry for nearly 6 years but recently
achieved employment with Big W in an open employment position.
While we were sad to see Anne-Marie go, we all know that this is a
great opportunity for her. Last year we reported on her gaining her
driver’s license and now this. We are all very proud of her and the
great achievements she has made since joining Endeavour.

Community Programs
Camp has become a regular event for many CP
Going to
participants.
Very often this is the first time away on holidays alone and
sometimes the first time away on holidays. There are many
different camp activities to enjoy such as indoor games – pool ,
table tennis etc and outdoor sports and activities.
There was lots of socializing and having fun with friends and this
year’s camp included taking a ride on a motorbike trike around the
grounds.
2012 SOCCER GALA DAY – ENDEAVOUR TEAM WITH THE NEWCASTLE JETS

Jamie attends Transition to Work and has recently started
volunteer work placement with Cessnock Car Detailing Centre
with the support from Endeavour staff. Now he participates
independently, travelling from home using public
transport and assisting with the detailing of vehicles from hand
washing, vacuuming to window cleaning. The staff at Cessnock
Car Detailing are really enjoying having Jamie in their team. His
sense of humour is infectious and he works very hard. Recently
they arranged for him to wear the Company uniform as
acknowledgement that he is a true team member.
In Community Participation, Denny is achieving one of his
dreams to participate in lots of different volunteer work
within his community. He is currently assisting Steve, the
manager, at Cessnock Laundromat with linen deliveries out to
the vineyards one morning each week. Denny is working
really well and meeting lots of new people.

Kristy, Matthew, Nathan, Tony & Mark
We are very involved in the community in which we live. We all
access local businesses and services both independently and
with help from staff. On a regular basis we shred paper and take
it to the local pet shop. Here at the Pet Shop we interact with
lots of different people and also learning about the care of
animals.
We all try very hard to do lots of things for ourselves and are
getting better and better at this all the time.
Nathan wanted to go on a
helicopter flight over the local
vineyards as part of his birthday
celebrations – so he did and
enjoyed the flight immensely.
Residents will soon be enjoying Toastmasters as a new group is
being set up providing opportunities for people with a disability. This
group is open to anyone who wants to express themselves, not just in
words – pictures, music, film - anything. It is about giving people a voice
but not just a speaking voice. Toastmasters will also be a great way to
meet and make new friends and is designed to support the development of
the skills and confidence people need to successfully express themselves in
any situation.

President’s
Report
I reported last year on considerable change occurring throughout the organisation and the impacts
of the economy on our financial results. Although I did expect continued change this year, what has
occurred over the last 12 months could not have been imagined.
Michael’s resignation after 2 successful years as CEO came as a bit of a shock, but John’s
appointment soon after has enable the momentum to continue with very little impact on
operations. We again welcome John to Endeavour and wish him every success and much
enjoyment in taking the helm of our organisation.
While the economic situation has not improved there have been other significant successes to
boost our prospects. The most important of these was the successful SAIF tender which will result
in nearly $3 million in funding to provide specialist accommodation and facilities in our Edgeworth
Gardens project. This will be part of a showcase of projects funded by the Commonwealth
Department FaCSHIA, demonstrating the most innovative and sustainable ideas in accommodation
for people living with severe and profound disabilities. Congratulations to everyone involved in the
tender process. It demonstrates that despite being relatively small, Endeavour is capable of great
things.
The St Phillips School is expected to vacate at the end of this year and demolition of the old
buildings will be the first stage of the project. Project Managers have now been appointed and the
final design plans are being worked on with the view of being able to commence building as soon as
possible after the site is cleared.
The second tendering success was the takeover of the Baptist Community Services FaCSHIA funded
Australian Disability Enterprise [ADE] outlet for 31 supported employees with mental health
disabilities, based in Newcastle. This project will involve a co-operative arrangement with
JobQuest, a not-for-profit operator of a similar type of social enterprise in Newcastle. Our ADE will
be run from the JobQuest site and enable the supported employees to transition into the social
enterprise workforce and then into open employment.
Page |8
Commencement of the Independent Living Support Initiative early in the year also added another
type of service in providing assistance to people who aspire to living more independently. This
expands our expertise in working with people in developing independent living skills and this will be
important for the ongoing assistance models at Edgeworth Gardens.
Our geographic expansion is also continuing with the successful operation of the Muswellbrook and
Port Stephens sites for Community Programs. Operations are expected to be underway in Maitland
in the new year at a site in High Street near the Post Office. This expansion will enable us to be in a
position to be involved in the pilot for the National Disability Insurance Scheme [NDIS] which is
targeting Newcastle, Maitland and Lake Macquarie.
John has also been in conversation with the Chairperson of Northnet with the view to assisting that
organisation to continue operating some valuable youth and training programs in Cessnock. While
these conversations are continuing much of what Northnet operated has now been dismantled and
may be difficult to re-establish.
The other project that will quickly loom in to view will be the re-location of the laundry and
administration to the new Bunnings site. This will take considerable planning and fundraising to be
able to achieve this goal and continue the expansion of Edgeworth Gardens to its full potential.
All of these projects will provide considerable challenges for the organisation over the coming years
and John is currently bedding down some changes to provide the platform to enable the
organisation to be properly structured and staffed. This includes a complete functional review of
the laundry which will need to significantly boost its profitability to justify the new premises.
The setting up of the Executive Management Team, new second tier management positions and
specialist roles such as the Work Health and Safety Officer and the Person Centred Planning
Facilitator will also assist and support this new structure. Also at this time we have the
development of the latest Enterprise Agreement, and our new HR Advisor is making excellent
headway in achieving this.
John is also very keen to continue to boost community awareness and the corporate profile of
Endeavour. While the Sportsman’s Lunch this year was a success in terms of marketing and
community awareness and certainly enjoyed by all who attended; it made little impact in terms of
fundraising. John continues to work with Cleo Consulting on marketing and promotional areas
including the possibility of re-branding to keep up with the expanding types of services that we
offer and take the organisation into the future.
Page |9
Participation rates for all of our disability services continue to increase but we need to remain
vigilant and proactive in attracting people to our services. Our marketing approach should assist
this; but at the end of the day it will the ongoing quality of our staff and services that determine
our success with people who use our services and those in their support network.
My thanks this year also goes to the member of our successful Parents and Carers’ Consultation
Group who have been attending meetings every two months with senior staff and providing very
valuable input into how we run the organisation from their perspective. They contribute to our
continuous improvement and help ensure that we remain aligned to our core values and the people
for whom we exist.
Our new CEO is also very keen to provide more training for the directors and more involvement in
governance through the establishment of more committees and more input into strategic planning.
I support this move wholeheartedly and look forward to learning more with my fellow directors.
My use of these new skills however will not be as President and Chairperson. I have decided to
step down after 20 years in this position. I am happy to remain as a director and believe that I still
have much to contribute to the organisation as we move into another exciting phase. I would like
to sincerely thank my fellow Directors for their support of me as President over the years and for
their contribution over the past year.
I also thank everyone at Endeavour for the achievements of the year due to your hard work and
dedication. I thank both Michael and John for their contributions as CEO and look forward to the
Board working with John despite the fact that he seems to want to work us harder than ever
before.
Some of the changes within the disability and community sector will have considerable impact on
organizations such as Endeavour and I am confident that we have the ability to be prepared for and
be involved in any and all of these. These changes will, over time, bring considerable benefits and
positive impacts on people living with disabilities in our community and
change the way that we operate with these people forever.
I recommend this, my last report as President, to you for your adoption.
Les Beveridge,
President

Secretary’s
Report
It has been another year of change and evolution for Endeavour Industries. Most recently the board
has shown that it can respond quickly to unforeseen changes and challenges – namely the selection
of John Lysaught as our new C.E.O. subsequent to the decision by Michael Evans to leave
Endeavour Industries. We wish Michael well for his future endeavours and warmly welcome his
replacement John Lysaught.
Certainly, from the outset John has shown himself to be enthusiastic and has a keen eye for detail.
With John’s knowledge of business principles the future looks even more exciting.
The board’s swift response to the unforeseen departure of a CEO is a testament to the versatility,
diversity and enthusiasm of the board and its members.
In the past year we have also welcomed new board member – Rod Johnson – and we look forward
to his input as he becomes more familiar with our organization.
Regular bi-monthly meetings have been held over the past year. Members of the board include Les
Beveridge, Peter Torenbeek, John Marjoribanks, Pratt Scott, Danny Litwin, Glen Davies, Drew
Kelvin, Michael Cleaves, Kyle Davies, Cain Beckett, Rod Johnson and Stewart Burns.
The efforts of our longstanding members of the board have been duly acknowledged at a recent
ceremony.
The finance sub-committee has also complimented the boards function and has continued with its
regular meetings and reviews.
Further to our previous “Good Governance” consulting sessions with the B.C.A national training
group (in 2010/2011) we look further to the initiations being suggested by our new C.E.O. which
will further define our role as board members to ensure lawful and moral compliance as Endeavour
Industries continues to grow and move forward.
I have every confidence Endeavour Industries will continue to flourish
both as a successful business enterprise and most importantly as a
support structure for those with disabilities in our community.
I recommend this report to you for your adoption.
Stewart Burns,
Honorary Secretary

Chief Executive Officer’s
Report
It is my great pleasure to contribute to the annual report for the year ended June 30th 2012.
In some ways it is quite a strange experience in that I commenced as CEO within a few weeks of the
end of the period and to a degree I will be reporting on events and achievements prior to my time.
I’d like to acknowledge the great work done by my predecessors; Peter Ryder and Michael Evans; in
leading the organization to this point and commend them on the great foundations that have been
built.
In terms of the year that was, the organisation’s achievements were many; however the greatest of
these was the successful tendering for the Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund (SAIF)
which has resulted in $2.92 million being allocated to Endeavour to support the creation and
construction of stage 1 of our Edgeworth Gardens community that will include a number of
specialist accommodation units and a community facility. This is a truly enormous achievement and
is a credit to all those involved as it will build on the lasting legacy of Endeavour within the wider
Hunter Community.
The strong financial results of 2011-2012 are also testament to the strong stewardship of the Board
and senior management and the well developed systems that your organization operates under.
This is vitally important as we plan for a bigger and better future in the current turbulent economic
environment.
In speaking of the future I am reminded of the old Chinese saying; “May you live in interesting
times” and that is certainly the case here at Endeavour as we move forward. With the Hunter being
chosen as the NSW launch site for the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme; the
single largest change in the disability space since the introduction of the Disability Services Act in
the 1980’s; we have huge challenges and opportunities ahead of us.
In an effort to prepare for a future that will be coloured greatly by the NDIS the Board and
Management Team have embarked on a series of activities that will equip the organization in the
brave new world.
These briefly include:


A restructure of the management team to better capitalize on upcoming opportunities by
leveraging individual skills and applying resources to where we can make the most gains in
terms of service improvement. This has involved the creation of an Executive Team, second
tier management positions, and specialist roles including a work health and safety officer, a
new human resource advisor and a person centred planning facilitator. We are also
developing a new enterprise agreement to give our employees a degree of flexibility and
surety in an uncertain political environment.
A functional review and restructure of Linen Services to grow net revenues and
sustainability as we consider upgrading the laundry facility.
P a g e | 13



Development of a new marketing strategy and a potential brand upgrade and relaunch as a
means of improving community profile and awareness to assist us to enable a larger number
of people with disability to improve their independence and inclusion.
A dedicated program of planned diversification to provide more opportunities for people
with disability to improve their lives through work and community participation. The first of
these is the successful tendering for 31 Australian Disability Enterprise places in Newcastle
that will focus on property care. In addition we are developing a significant new site in
Maitland, expanding services in the Port Stephens area, examining the possibility of filling
the gap that the winding down of Northnet has left in the Cessnock area, and actively
assessing new business arms for the next stage of our development.
We are also undertaking advanced governance training with our Board to ensure their level
of expertise keeps pace with our environment and our growth; and matches their great
commitment to the future of Endeavour. This will flow on to strategic planning activities in
early 2013.
Whilst these activities are by their very nature creating a great number of challenges they will
ensure that Endeavour remains at the forefront of services in the Hunter Region.
In closing I would like to acknowledge that no organization can succeed without the right
people. In other words; first the “who”, then the “what”. I am proud to say that on the whole
we certainly have the “who”; from the Board, through the management team, and staff the
right people are in place. The efforts put in to the organization by our people are truly
heartening.
Even more importantly the achievements of our service users are also truly inspirational and are
the reason the organization exists; something we can never lose sight of.
I’d like to thank everyone at Endeavour for your acceptance and warm welcome over the last
few months. I’m proud to be part of the future of this organization and a look forward to
working with you all.
I recommend this report for your adoption.
