Sells Golf Shoes
• If you j u d g e t h a t a fellow w e a r s an
11% size shoe, h o l d u p an 8 or 9 w h e n
he's looking t h e m over. Size llJa looks
m u c h longer t h a n it actually is a n d m a y
discourage t h e poor fellow. This is strictly psychological,
• If y o u ' r e displaying shoes on a highly
polished table, r e m o v e t h e spikes. T h a t •
w a y you'll avoid scratches t h a t d e t r a c t
f r o m t h e display area. Grass m a t s really
enliven a display.
• D o n ' t display shoes in boxes. T h e y
lose their classy look.
• Avoid glass enclosed shoe displays.
T h e y don't h e l p sales.
• D o n ' t s h o w men's a n d w o m e n ' s shoes
together.
• If you h a v e n ' t got enough shoe trees
stuff p a p e r in t h e toes. T h i s k e e p s t h e
shoes looking better,
• You don't h a v e to sell shoes that a r e
correctly displayed. T h e y sell themselves.

Shore C C in Glcnview, 111., has some f i n e
selling f e a t u r e s along with some t h a t aren't
q u i t e as good as they could b e . But Robbins rigged t h e latter to get a f e w points
across a b o u t golf s h o e m e r c h a n d i s i n g .
T h e r e is no d o u b t t h a t (he t o p p a r t of
t h e p a n e l will sell shoes. T h e r e is p l e n t y
of vvhite s p a c e a r o u n d e a c h shoe displayed
a n d t h e p r o - h a n d l e shoehorns give a nice
partitioning e f f e c t . T h e s h o e rests a r e
finished in brass and h a v e a slot in t h e
m i d d l e for price display.
T h e lower half of t h e display is not
q u i t e t h e w a y Al w o u l d show shoes. T h e r e
a r e too m a n y in t h e allotted s p a c e a n d an
o v e r c r o w d e d look results. T h e shoe at
lower left has laces h a n g i n g out (sloppy)
a n d rests o n a h e a v y plastic fixture which
isn't necessarily c o n d u c i v e to sales. Ef a
golfer takes t h e s h o e off t h e fixture to look
it over h e m a y h a v e trouble r e p l a c i n g it.
If h e does m a n a g e to get it b a c k on t h e
stand it m a y fall off, causing h i m "some
e m b a r r a s s m e n t and you a possible sale.
T h e idea, says Al, is not to use tricky fixtures.

basis of a b o u t 4 0 0 returns in which m e m bers indicated their p r e f e r e n c e s for t h e
w o r k s h o p sites.
