DATA SHEET
CA Database Recovery Management Suite
for DB2 for z/OS
At a Glance
Database Administrators (DBAs) are responsible for ensuring your critical business data is recoverable regardless of the
data corruption caused by an errant application change or storage device failure. CA Database Recovery Management
Suite for DB2 for z/OS provides a comprehensive solution designed to automate and streamline the process to recover
data thus reducing the risk of a prolonged outage due to manual creation of recover jobs.
Key Benefits/Results
Business Challenges
• DB2 recovery automation. Automates
recovery for everything from a single
object to a complex system.
When faced with a DB2 recovery situation, it is imperative that a DBA recover critical DB2
data correctly and bring applications back online as quickly as possible. However, DB2
recovery is complex and requires considerable effort and knowledge to build jobs and
restore data to a consistent point.
• Efficient recovery jobs. Generation of
efficient and streamlined recovery jobs.
• Reduced recovery time. Uses utilities
designed to reduce recovery time and
increase service availability.
• Enhanced performance. High-speed
recovery of DB2 tablespaces and indexes.
• Reliability. Helps get your systems back
online reliably.
• Data availability. Recovery of DB2 data to
alternate files.
Key Features
• Application recovery. Automate the
recovery of your tablespaces and indexes.
• DB2 system recovery. Recover DASD volumes
and storage groups, the bootstrap, active, and
archive log datasets, and the DB2 catalog.
• Disaster recovery services. Take
advantage of powerful services that can
recover your DB2 system at your disaster
recovery site.
• Disaster recovery with high availability.
Back up your DB2 system with no outage
using image copy with SHRLEVEL CHANGE.
• Log change records. Accesses the DB2 log
records to roll back committed work or to
“replay” what happened.
• SMF audit reporting. Tracks and reports
on security violation attempts using the
internal DB2 audit trace.
• Log analysis reporting. Provides many
built-in reports to more easily investigate
the contents of the DB2 log. To support
individual users, each report can be
customized. This customization can be
saved for future use.
Solution Overview
CA Database Recovery Management Suite for DB2 for z/OS helps you simplify and streamline
DB2 recovery, whether it is simply a few application objects, a complete ERP application, or
an entire DB2 system. With CA Database Recovery Management Suite you have the tools to
surgically back out a single update, support auditing of data changes, and replicate data
changes to remote subsystems. In addition you can quickly backup the data and consolidate
incremental backups or accumulate log changes to produce a new backup to streamline the
processing and improve the overall efficiency of the recovery jobs.
This suite includes the following products:
•CA Log Analyzer™ for DB2 for z/OS: A powerful product that analyzes DB2 log and SMF
records to aid in auditing data changes.
•CA Recovery Analyzer™ for DB2 for z/OS: Simplifies complex DB2 recovery situations by
automating the generation of efficient recovery jobs.
•CA Fast Recover™ for DB2 for z/OS: Provides the ability to quickly recover DB2 data
(table spaces and indexes) after a disaster or system failure, while minimizing CPU cycles,
service units and EXCPs.
•CA Merge/Modify™ for DB2 for z/OS: Accelerates image copy and recovery processes
to help you reduce the drain on valuable CPU resources and streamline backup and
recovery procedures.
•CA Quick Copy for DB2 for z/OS: Provides you with backups of DB2 data by making single
or multiple image copies at high speeds.

CA Recovery Analyzer for DB2 for z/OS
Enhanced recovery options to increase
flexibility and accelerate the recovery
process:
Recover DB2 data to alternate files, leaving
the original data available for read-only
access until recovery completion.
Recover data with different internal
identifiers, not matching what DB2 expects:
Use image copies to recover dropped
objects.
Recover data to alternate tablespaces and
indexspaces (also across different sources
and target DB2 systems).
Recovery from non-DB2 backups: Recover
DB2 data from the DB2 log created by nonDB2 backup utilities.
Job optimization. The product optimizes
the jobs that it builds to make sure they run
efficiently. For example, you can optimize by
volume serial to recover the objects in the
order in which they are stacked on tape, or
opt to run recovery jobs in parallel.
• Creating new image copies from existing
image copies without outage.
• Creating and using change accumulation
files.
Automated object selection. You can recover
a single object, or the thousands of objects
that make up an ERP application. Objects
can be selected from a list, included
automatically at run time (with or without
dependent indexes) using object name
masking, or selected based on plan and
package dependency.
SNAPSHOT support. Snapshot image copies
converted into normal DB2 image copies
registered in SYSIBM.SYSCOPY.
Powerful recovery point options. The
product includes a number of options for
choosing the recovery point, including current
point in time, the latest incremental or full
copy, the latest copy, the latest quiesce point,
a specific RBA, the latest common quiesce
point, or the latest checkpoint RBA.
Scan the SYSIBM.SYSCOPY for duplicate data
set names before executing the copy.
Update modification indicators, which can
affect performance
PREVIEW option. Lets you preview all
messages that result from your job without
actually performing the job.

SMF audit reporting. CA Log Analyzer
provides advanced auditing on security
violation attempts in DB2. It also tracks
grants and revokes so you can see who is
being granted access to which objects and
by whom. It can report on DDL activity,
allowing you to track who is creating,
altering or dropping DB2 objects
