Regina K. Crawford is a civil rights servant leader/activism in the NAACP, under the leadership of
Mr. John R. Hatcher III, presiding president NAACP Ventura County Chapter President and former
NAACP Southern Area President. Crawford has been a servant leader with the NAACP for more than
30 years. She is a NAACP Life m ember, joining the Association in 1974, when
st
she was 12 years old. Crawford currently the 1 Vice President of Ventura County Chapter and,
the NAACP Ventura County Youth & College Advisor. Her primary responsible for the NAACP
Ventura County Chapter is Organizational Planning, Operations and Community Relations. Her
duties include overseeing all standing committees in the organization, pr i m ar i l y wo r k i ng wi t h legal redress, r e v i e w d i s c r i m i n a t i o n
complaints, mediation and NAACP Ventura County legal representative, working with local city, county, state, federal officials.
A third – generation member of the NAACP, comes from a long-line of freedom fighters, her daughter the presiding Youth & College
president continuing the legacy of four generations. Crawford’s father who is influential in the civil rights movements believed in
teaching his children early about being of service. Crawford’s participated in her first protest march at the age of 5 years old with the
local farmworkers.
Crawford leadership activism b e g u n in 1978 at the age of 16, elected NAACP Ventura County Youth & College President. In 1980,
while serving in the capacity of Ventura County Youth President, she was elected NAACP Southern Area Youth & College President,
representing seven Youth & College states California, Hawaii, Alaska, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Utah. Crawford was the first
young lady to serve in the position of NAACP Southern Area Youth & College division. Crawford serving two terms in this position.
In 2006, Crawford was elected NAACP Ventura County President, during her tenure the NAACP, membership and activists increases.
Augment the organization capacity to work on issues related to youth activism, mobilizing membership, and voter registration.
Crawford, who is constant and visible in the community, is a strong advocate, supporting educational, health, and youth initiatives. She
is reminded by her parents teaching of a Chinese proverbs “if you give a man fish he eats for the day, if you teach a man to fish he will
eat a lifetime”. Crawford believes i n the key to today’s success is to fortify and building the core values of unity, solidarity and
responsibility with in the people and communities, reinforcing her belief that nothing is impossible. S h e e ncourages all that she meets to
challenge their selves to reach their full potential to strive for their dream. Her leadership philosophy has been effectively defined in
communicating expectations, emphasizes on commitment, service, and professionalism through dedicated collective team work, by
encouraging personal responsibility, accountability, and spiritual growth.
Crawford serving on various community organizations and committees: Ventura County Youth Opportunity Program (YOP), Black
American Political Association of California (BAPAC), and NEMESIS EEOC Black Sub-Committee, President. As an advocate for youth,
Crawford coached at Pacific Youth Football League (PYFL), where she founded/director the Warriors Cheerleader program, CBC Softball
and Basketball league, Seaside Baseball League and American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). In addition, volunteering her time at
the NAACP Saturday School located at the California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA, working with at risk youth and feed
the homeless.
Crawford continuous work in the civil rights was notable recognized in 2012, when she awarded the NAACP Ventura County
President Award. Crawford e n d o r s i n g a African proverb from the Chairman of the NAACP Rosalyn Brock - “ Care more than others
think is wise, Risk more than others think is safe, Dream more than others think is practical, and Expect more than others think is
possible.” Crawford w r i t e s h e r p e r s o n a l life belief - “It takes each of us to make a difference for all of us, we choose to believe
we can and will change the world with our words and thoughts.” Inheritably we all have destiny to serve humanity, sometimes it is not
by choice, it is our calling, and it is our belief in God. Crawford continues h e r f a m i l y l e g a c y to makes significant contribution in the
areas of civil/human rights, race relation, equal opportunity, and public services, by advocating for ALL people.
