PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ITEMS
WITH YOU WHEN YOU PICK UP YOUR PACKET;

2. USAT CARD (If you are a member, if not you

up).
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
!
!
!
!
!
Look up your bib number on the alphabetical athlete list posted at the registration
area. (Note: Relays are listed separately by team name).
Go to the appropriate line (BIB #’S ARE LISTED OVERHEAD) based on
your bib number and present your ID to the volunteer.
YOUR PACKET CONTAINS –
a. Race Numbers (bike frame #, Bike helmet #, run bib #)
b. Colored swim cap according to your wave.
c. Timing CHIP
d. Wristband – which is both security (your way in and out of transition) and
for the complimentary, don’t miss buffet after the race.
Pickup up your t-shirt, TYR bag and water bottle.
RELAYS – All relays must resign the USAT one day license waiver.
This is to assure the person registered is the person racing. Also all three of you
must be present to pick up your packet.
NOTE: IF YOU ARE A USAT MEMBER AND FORGET YOUR CARD
YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE A ONE DAY LICENSE FOR $10 IN
ORDER TO RACE.
HELMET NUMBER: Which is the smallest of the
numbers…gets affixed to the front of your helmet.
BIKE NUMBER: The bike number is folded in half. It should be
placed over your bike frame and sealed with the peel and stick
back.
RUN NUMBER: The run number (AKA your bib number) has
holes in the corner that you can use to safety pin to the FRONT of
your shirt. Or you may use a race belt and affix to said corners.
BODYMARKING: You will be body marked b/w 5:45 and 7:00
am. Please tell your body marker your race number and age. Your
race number will be marked on your right upper arm and right
front thigh. Your age will be marked on your right calf. If you are in
a special category (RELAY - R, ATHENA A, CLYDESDALE
C) this should be marked on your right calf as well.
AN EARLY ATHLETE IS A RELAXED ATHLETE……
PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME
DIRECTIONS are online at www.cgiracing.com. The parking gets very
backed up from about 6:30 – 7:15 so arrive early.
PARKING –There are multiple lots available for parking. Please follow our directions
closely. DO NOT PARK IN ANY CHURCH PARKING LOTS!!!!!
ARRIVE EARLY~ NOTE;
1. Please DO NOT ask the traffic officers questions.
2. Please proceed quickly and safely into the lots.
3. DO NOT DROP OFF ATHLETES on the Road into the Park –
pull into the lot and DROP OFF in a designated spot.
BODYMARKING: Located in front of the transition area. Please wait until after you are
bodymarked to put sunscreen on.
PRE RACE MEETING: Race directors and officials will review important race
information at this time. 3:00 Saturday – Please attend if you are new to racing or the
course. It is for the safety of all competitors.
TRANSITION AREA: You must be out of the transition area by 7:20 am. Relay team
members may wait in the transition area but it may only be the team of the next leg of the
race. For safety reasons during the race, you are not permitted to ride your bike in or out
of the Transition area. You must walk or run your bike while in the Transition area.
There will be clearly marked mount and dismount lines on at bike exit/enter. Please
watch out for other athletes as you move through the Transition area and follow the
instructions of race officials and volunteers
SWIM START: The swim start will be an in water start. You will start the swim
according to your color-coded swim cap. You must wear the swim cap provided in your
race packet. We will have plenty of kayaks and boats patrolling the course. No fins,
paddles, or flotation devices of any kind.
If for any reason you would like to quit during the swim portion please remove your swim
cap and wave in the air. A lifeguard will come to you and call a motorized boat to remove
you from the water.
WETSUITS FOR AGE GROUP ATHLETES:
The use of wetsuits during the swim segment will determined 30 minutes prior to the start of the race. If
the water temperature on race morning is 78.0 degrees or
less wetsuits are permitted. If the water temperature exceeds 78.0 degrees but is less than 84.0 degrees, an
athlete may wear a wetsuit but will be ineligible for awards and
national ranking consideration. If the water temperature is 84.0 degrees or
higher, the use of wetsuits is strictly prohibited.
SWIM COURSE:
Both swim courses are one loop. The sprint course is 750 meters and the olympic course
is 1500 meters. All buoys will be on your right hand side for both the Sprint and the
Olympic except for the final turn into shore which will be on your right. Athletes may rest
by holding onto buoys and/or kayaks but must make a consistent effort to complete the
swim (in the opinion of water safety personnel). Sprint athletes will have 45 minutes to
complete the swim. Olympic swimmers will have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the
swim. The water temperature has typically been around 80 degrees for this race meaning
you’re allowed to wear a wetsuit but in doing so are ineligible for awards.
BIKE COURSE:
PLEASE INSTRUCT YOUR FAMILY/ FRIENDS/ FANS NOT TO DRIVE ON TO
THE BIKE COURSE TO CHEER YOU ON. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS IT ADDS TO
COURSE TRAFFIC.
SPRINT and OLYMPIC
The sprint bike course is a ONE loop, 15.5 mile course and the Olympic bike course is a
23.5 mile course. It is mostly rolling hills but nothing I would consider too, too daunting.
The course is open to traffic so be aware at all times. North East Police and Maryland
State Police will control intersections where the race does not automatically have the
right of way.
RUN COURSE:
SPRINT
The sprint run course is a 3.1 mile out and back, course. Sprint Distance will close at 11:30
AM. You will pass water stations three times during the run. These stations will be
supplied with water and HEED. One of the stations will also have cooling rags and
Hammer Gel.
OLYMPIC
The Olympic run course is also an out and back course. You will pass water stations five
times during the run. These stations will be supplied with water and HEED. One of the
stations will also have cooling rags and two will have Hammer Gel. The course closes at
1pm.
There will be timing mats at the turnaround to ensure each athlete completes
the entire run course.
RACE FINISH:
Upon finishing the race the athletes will have their timing chip removed by a volunteer.
DO NOT LEAVE THE FINISH AREA WITH YOUR TIMING CHIP. IF YOU
DO NOT RETURN YOUR CHIP YOU WILL BE CHARGED A
REPLACEMENT FEE of $35.
The race course will officially close at 1pm. Finish times will be posted in the
awards area.
RELAYS: Relays can remain in the transition area at your bike rack location after the
transition has been cleared. Please be aware the race is in progress and athletes will be
racing through the transition. Chip exchange takes place at your bike rack location only.
POST-RACE:
Be sure to stick around for a delicious buffet from the Naughty Goose. We will also be
giving away some great raffle prizes during the Awards ceremony. Remember you must
be wearing your wristband in order to get the complimentary buffet. Naughty Goose is
open for family and friends too.
TIMING, RESULTS & AWARDS:
Lin-Mark Computer Sports will be handling the official timing. You MUST use the
chip they provide you. You may NOT use your own chip. Unofficial race results will be
posted prior to the awards presentation. Please report any discrepancy to a USAT official
PRIOR to the start of the awards presentation. Athletes who do not wear their chip
during the entire event will not be scored and will not receive a finish time. Please note
that the clock time at the finish line reflects the race start time of the first swim wave. Full
results and splits will be available on our web site at www.cgiracing.com within 24 hours
after the race. You must be present to claim your award. No awards will be mailed to
racers.
DROPPING OUT:
If you drop out of the race, it is IMPERATIVE that you notify a race official and return
your timing chip at the finish line.
PROTESTS:
All protests of penalties assessed for rules infractions by USAT officials must be filed with
the USAT Head Official within 60 minutes after the penalty report is posted. Judgment
calls (e.g., drafting) are not eligible for protest.

MOST COMMONLY VIOLATED USAT RULES
Ride on the right side of your lane.
Keep three bike lengths between you and the cyclist in front of you.
Pass on the left of the cyclist in front, never on the right.
Complete your pass within 15 seconds.
If passed, you must drop completely out of the zone, at least 3 bikes to the rear of
the person who passed you, before attempting to re-pass.
Remember you are racing in a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and there are trained referees on
the course to ensure fairness in the competition. Triathlon is an individual event and you must
take personal responsibility to understand the rules and avoid penalties. At the end of the race all
citations by the officials are reviewed by the Head Referee who then decides if a penalty should be
assessed. The Head Referee’s ruling is final in the case of Position Violations and there are no
protests or appeals of Position penalties. Officials commonly cite the following violations:
Illegal Position or Blocking – riding on the left side of the lane without passing.
Illegal Pass – passing on the right.
Overtaken - failing to drop back three bike lengths after being passed and before
re-passing.
Drafting – following a leading cyclist closer than three bike lengths and failing to
pass within 15 seconds.
Though Position Violations carry a time penalty for each occurrence, if you are cited for three
violations, you will be disqualified.
Always have your chinstrap securely fastened! The helmet and chinstrap rule apply
before, during, and after the event. The chinstrap rule is the easiest to follow, but some folks
always seem to forget – that’s a DQ!
Remember to treat other athletes, volunteers, and officials with courtesy and consideration.
Failure to do so is called Unsportsmanlike Conduct and you will be disqualified.
Bib #’s and SWIM WAVES will be available on the entry
list on or about 8/10
The course is great for spectators!
It is easiest to move around on foot. The ideal viewing locations are all located right
within the park. You can line the water to view the swim portion then walk over to the
Bike in and out then move over to the run course and cheer them to finish up by cheering
your loved one on as they bring it home through finish line.
We strongly encourage you to tell your family and friends to cheer you on!
Bring signs, cowbells, horns, bells whatever they want to motivate you to the finish. It
may be hot so bring lots of water, hats and sunscreen. STOP BY INSPIRATION
STATION and gather up the fun (tattoo’s, make and take a sign and more!).
SPECTATORS
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES SO WE
CAN HAVE A SAFE AND FUN EVENT….
Parking – Please do not park along the course. There is sufficient parking
in the designated lots. DO NOT PARK IN ANY CHURCH
PARKING LOTS!!!!
Please do not follow your athlete in your car on the race course
– this can be very dangerous.
Timing is everything – Triathlon can be a difficult sport to keep track of
a loved one. Be sure to ask you athlete in advance what time they think they
will be on each leg of the course and the best time to catch a glimpse of
them! It makes your spectating much more fun.
Information – Should you need information about an athlete at any time
during the race please go to the Information Area and see a CGI Racing
team member.
Well for CGI RACING this is our last race of the
season and we truly can’t believe another season is
behind us!
This has been our most successful year yet with every
race selling out and we cannot say thank you enough
to each of you because without you, your enthusiasm
and many great suggestions we could not possibly
improve our races year after year after year.
We hope each of you has an unforgettable experience
and that this becomes not a once a year race for you
but a lifestyle change that motivates you every day!
Have a great race!
