September 15, 2016 Hello! Welcome back! We are already in the third week of school! Thank you for partnering with us again this year. It is our hope that the school year is positive and productive for everyone in our school community. In addition to all of our new students, we welcome a few new staff members as well. Mr. Jeff Milner joins us this year as a CTS teacher (computer science, financial management, new media, video and animation, yearbook, computers 9 and CALM). Mrs. Amy Davis joins us as our new Family School Liaison Counsellor (FSLC), and Miss Kyla Perini joins us as an education assistant. For the first four months of the year, we are also working with four intern teachers: Michelle Philip in English, Jana Clark in Art, Shaelynn Garner in Social and Natalie Doolevoet in PE. We have had a great start. After the first few days, we adapt to our new routines and students, old and new, are accustomed to our shared space. When it comes to sharing space and time together, there are two primary expectations: be kind and do your best. We have a great school. We want to keep our school a safe, respectful, caring place of learning for all. This is our collective purpose and I know that we will have another excellent year. Our annual Tri-School BBQ is coming, scheduled for Tuesday, September 20, 5:00 to 6:30, in the bus loop. This is a chance to meet the teachers from Central School, D.A. Ferguson Middle School and W.R. Myers High School. We hope to see you there! As well, our first School Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 26 at 4:00 in the conference room. I hope the school year is off to a strong start for every one of our students. Please give us a call if you have a concern or a question about any school issue. Mr. Jeff Milner Before I even start, I just want to announce my big news that over the summer I got married! We had a delightful little ceremony next to the South Saskatchewan River with our closest friends and family in attendance. Now, here's a little bit of history about myself: Originally from Medicine Hat, I've lived in Lethbridge for the past 14 years. I went to the U of L to study New Media, Fine Art, and Education. I'm the president of the Lethbridge Chess club — it turns out you don't have to be particularly good at chess to be the president, you just have to be enthusiastic. I sit on the University of Lethbridge Alumni Association Council (ULAA Council) as the director of Public Relations and Events. From my previous time at W.R. Myers in the shop to subbing all over and then taking on contracts in Vulcan, Brocket, and teaching Hutterite students at Midland Colony, I've had a pretty vast Alberta teaching experience. My passion, however, is in teaching New Media, and I'm very excited to be a part of the W.R. Myers team, doing what I love. Mrs. Amy Davis Hey Everyone! I'm so excited to be part of W.R. Myers this year and am looking forward to meeting each one of you. I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist and have spent the last two years as the Family School Liaison Counsellor in the Warner and Milk River Schools. When I'm not at school, I like to spend time with my two young kids. I enjoy running, reading and exploring old Ghost Towns with my husband. I'm always up for an adventure and love learning new things and meeting new people!! Please drop by and say "hi" when you get the chance. I would love to meet you!! Miss. Kyla Perini Come to the Tri-school B.B.Q. on Tuesday Sept. 20 and meet all the staff members. The Myers football team kicked off the year with a 23-12 victory in Drumheller on Friday, Sept. 2 Evan Harkness had 148 yards rushing and Bradley Marsden contributed with 2 touchdowns. On defense it was a team effort with 16 players registering tackles. The Rebels won 47-14 vs Winston Churchill last Friday night. The team went up early scoring on their first play. Evan Harkness scored the first of his 3 touch downs running it in on a 80 yard touch down. Bradley Marsden scored two touch downs and added 158 all purpose yards in total.
