Viewing
• :06 Playing Video: Hand out Viewing Guide. Go over viewing questions and expectations and tell the students to pay
attention to the program and answer the questions while watching. Don’t hesitate to stop the program and review if
the students seem confused. A difficult concept is telling the time between 12:30 and 1:30.
15 minutes
Post-viewing
• :21 Question & Answer Session: Ask the class for the answers to the viewing questions. See if any parts of the program
were difficult or confusing for the students. Ask a few questions to check their understanding of the key topics.

2. ¿Qué hora es?
3. ¿Qué día es hoy?

Learning Objectives
At the end of the module, students will be able to:
• define, pronounce, and correctly spell the vocabulary words
• ask and tell the time
• ask and tell the date
Materials
• Video: telling the time, seasons, months, days, telling the date; 15 minutes long
• Viewing Guide: vocabulary, pattern sentences & questions; 3 Viewing Questions
• Worksheet: vocabulary practice, sentence practice, applying time to daily routines
• Activity Sheet: pair conversation practice, group guessing game
• Check Your Knowledge: vocabulary, asking and telling time & date, students’ favorites; 50 points
Background
Students must be able to count easily from 1 to 60.
It’s helpful if the students know how to conjugate ser and estar. If they don’t, students should be able to focus on asking
and telling the time and date without worrying about the grammar rules.
Preparation
Copies of calendars or a wind-up clock are very useful.
A simple clock can also be made with construction paper.
Have an equal number of both activity sheets copied and ready to be handed out.
Extension:
Teach the class sports vocabulary and have them practice talking about which sports they play in which season.
Depending on their level, they can make reports about their favorite season, including holidays, weather, and their
activities.

Activity #1
I’m Sorry Darling, I Can’t Make It
Work in pairs. Your goal is to find a free date that both of you can go rubber chicken shopping. Actually, that’s not really your goal.
Actually, you want to practice asking and answering in Spanish as much as possible. Studies have shown, though, that students are
more motivated when they are given an incentive...like pretending to shop for rubber chickens.
Use this dialogue as a template. One student makes a suggestion and the other student checks their day planner. Then switch roles.
Repeat until you find the one date that both of you have in common.
Student 1: “Can we go on _________________?”
Student 2: “Maybe. ¿Qué hora es?”
Student 1: “___________________________.”
Student 2: Yes/no. _____________________.”
