L-3 Display Systems’ manufacturing facilities comprise of over 53,000 square feet and meet the requirements of MIL-STD-454, MIL-STD-1686, MIL-STD-2000A, MIL-STD-1686, and J-STD-001. L-3 DS is also AS9100 Rev. B certified. L-3 DS has implemented “lean practices” within its entire production value stream. The system operates as a pull system within a visual factory making maximum use of colorcoded lights, totes, status boards and kanbans to monitor progress and implement corrective actions. All products are assembled within cells which produce either single products or similar products depending on the throughput rate and the products’ takt time. The manufacturing area contains eight production cells, five common process cells, one Overhaul/Repair (O/R) cell, one Pilot Production cell, and an environmental test cell.
