One summer, a client pointed out that
outdoor wooden decorating materials
aged and discolored under sun exposure
even though the surface is coated with
an anti-UV clear finish.
Everlight Chemical examined the problem and
recognized that similar to the use of sunscreen:
Even though sunscreen prevents sunburn and skin
darkening, it cannot provide complete protection.
You need to use some skin essence products in
combination for better resistance to the harmful sun
radiation. Everlight Chemical conducted a series of
experiments to identify the best anti-UV essence.
Everlight Chemical also tested the best clear finish
and anti-UV essence ratio as well as the optimal
thickness for wood material protection.
Through actual testing, Everlight Chemical found
that with its dual protection formula, the color of
wood materials can be well-preserved for two months
under sun exposure. This result surprised the client,
and the client very much appreciated Everlight
Chemical's technical capacity. Compared to increasing
the concentration or thickness of the clear finish, this
approach is more effective and money-saving.

 If one can fit six standard deviations in between the mean and the
specification limit, we would say the sigma level is "6σ".
What is the defective rate of 6σ? 3.4 ppm or 0.002 ppm?
 The larger the standard deviation, the lower the sigma level.
 A sigma level indicates the probability of nonconformity. The higher the
sigma level, the smaller the variation, and the less likely the occurrence
of nonconformity. A defective ratio can be easily estimated by the sigma
level.

 Statistics tells us that a 6σ process has a non-conforming
rate of 0.002 ppm (parts per million), while 3.4 ppm is
equivalent to 4.5σ.
 The long-term (such as 3-year) process capability is

approximately 1.5σ as a rule of thumb. That is why a process
with 3.4 ppm long-term defective rate can be claimed 6σ.
