Herbert University Center University of North Florida 12000 Alumni Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224 19th Annual 2017 Baker Award Recipient Lawrence “Laurie” DuBow Laurie is involved with many community nonprofit agencies having served as a Board member of the Super Bowl XXXIX Host Committee; Board member of Habijax; and on the Board of Trustees of WJCT. He is a member of the Advisory Council at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and a former member of the UF Health Jacksonville Board of Directors. He is a founding member of the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida and a former Chairman of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. He served on the Jacksonville Housing Authority for eight years, the last year as Chairman. He is a former partner in the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ltd. Laurie and his family, through the DuBow Family Foundation, continue to support and encourage charity and philanthropy in our community. The Thompson S. Baker Award Junior Achievement of North Florida marks its 18th year of presenting the Thompson S. Baker “Solid As A Rock” Award, recognizing individuals who have dedicated themselves to bettering our community through leadership, hands-on involvement and philanthropic deeds. The annual award celebrates our local heroes who have positively influenced business and education in Jacksonville. Since 1997, this prestigious annual award has been named for Thompson S. Baker, the founder of Florida Rock Industries who unselfishly contributed to the betterment of our community. We are honored to be able to recognize his life with the annual presentation of the Thompson S. Baker “Solid As A Rock” Award. About Junior Achievement Junior Achievement is celebrating its 54th year of bringing financial literacy, workforce preparation and entrepreneurship programs to young people in North Florida. Since 1963, 26,000 volunteers have taught Junior Achievement programs to 582,640 young people. This year, we are poised to reach over 55,000 students in grades K-12. Junior Achievement is an integral partner in K-12 education of young people in our community. Financial literacy, workforce preparation and entrepreneurship are the three pillars of Junior Achievement that contribute to the future wellbeing of local students. The 2016 opening of the Bank of America/JA Financial Literacy Center in New Town and the creation of the Economics of Healthy Eating program sponsored by The Jim Moran Foundation marked another milestone in Junior Achievement’s local impact.
