Welcome to Winter at the MARC. Originally built as a church in 1926, the Moab Arts & Recreation Center (MARC) was purchased by the City of Moab and renovated into an arts and community center seventy years later. Today the MARC is a vibrant center for creating community through recreation and the arts. Just last night as I wandered through the building, I heard musicians playing dance music, caught glimpses of dancers practicing their bachata steps, and smelled fresh pine from crafters making fresh evergreen wreaths. This space fosters creativity. Moab is home to many excellent artists, and each winter, many offer to teach during the Winter Class season. I encourage you to take advantage of their offerings. Interested in digital technology? Improve your skills with Photoshop or learn to make art with your iPad. Want to draw or paint? Choose from acrylic, pastel, or drawing classes. Interested in books or journaling? Learn to bind books, illustrate journals in the field, or try calligraphy. Enjoy working with your hands? Try wood carving or leather working. Learn guitar! Join us for a Trashion Fashion workshop. Our offerings are as diverse as this community of artists who call Moab home. Classes are scheduled around a teacher’s availability. Some classes are single day workshops and others are multi-week adventures. I encourage you to read about our classes and see what strikes your fancy. Through a partnership with WabiSabi Moab, scholarships are available for education programs at the MARC. If you need financial help to take a class, please call us for more information.
