Every Learner Known, Valued and Understood

Every Learner Known, Valued and Understood Welcome to
Post 16 at
Bradford Academy
We hope you find this prospectus useful in helping you make the right decisions about your
studies after Year 11. For September 2013 we are offering over 30 subjects at
Levels 1, 2 & 3 in both academic and vocational courses. We always endeavour to meet the
subject requirements of all our applicants and allow everyone to maximise their
success and potential. Learners with 5 A*-C GCSE's including English and Maths have free
access to the strands. Those who have 5 A*-C GCSE's but missed English or Maths will
have access to the strands and the opportunity to resist the core GCSE missed.
Learners who cannot access the stands directly have the opportunity to study an access
course which when passed guarantees access to the stands.
Bradford Academy has an experienced and dedicated team to support you during your time
with us. Whatever challenges and opportunities you face, we will be there to support you.
You will have an assigned academic Core tutor, as well as an experienced Learning guide
who offers expert advice and guidance throughout your time in Post 16.
Our Post 16 students last year achieved our best results ever; at Level 3 our pass rate was
98%. Our UCAS process allowed all our students who applied to go to their first choice
college or university.
OFSTED, on their last visit to us judged our provision as “good” and stated that “Post 16 is
well led and managed so that provision meets students’ needs well’. The curriculum
stretches from level 1 to 3 encompassing a good range of courses and learning styles are
well matched to students’ prior attainment and aspirations. Students say they value highly
the dedication which staff support them”.
We hope you are able to attend our open evening on WEDNESDAY 6TH FEBRUARY from
5pm. We look forward to meeting you then and answering any questions you may have. It
will give you chance to talk to the subject staff and meet all the Post16 team.
Ann Wilkinson-Cox
Director of Post 16
At Level 3 we have designed a programme which offers a wide range of
subjects and gives students the opportunity to achieve the best
possible grades and gain essential employability skills within their chosen
qualifications. The strands below offer a ‘package’ of subjects, which are
complimentary but there is the flexibility to chose between strands.
The additional option choice is a ‘free’ choice, and students can chose
any subject from here that they haven’t picked in the strand. Resit
Mathematics and English will be compulsory for those students without a
grade C in either subject.
