Round Hill School – School Council Minutes

Members present: Leah Rasmuson, Carlene Wetthuhn, Matt Spronk, Susie Ellik, Bharb Tomaszewski,
Elicia Kovac, Nicola Irving, Dawn Miller, Sheldon Nederlof, Candace Perry.
Meeting called to order – 6.32 pm

Positive Thoughts
Live different – loved the lunch. Kids had a great time. Basketball game afterwards was great.
Mini dunkers tournament went well. We received a complementary e-mail from one of the teams.
Carlene – thank you to mini dunkers coaches.
Leah – loved the positive comments by Mr. Spronk at the end of each child’s report card.

Principal’s Report – Mr. Spronk
a) Proposed new bill by NDP will probably be passed as law next year. School fees will be
affected – cannot blanket for school supplies. Susie will investigate school supplies
fundraiser for next year. Standard instructional fees will be eliminated.
b) Kinesthetic classroom equipment has arrived. Mr. Lowe would like to change to group
tables from art room, and we will replace with rectangular tables.
c) Sound system is back. Staff have had some training.
d) Facility tour from BRSD – will get new boiler and roof. Main entrance sign.
e) New 17/18 calendar has been issued. Will be more PD days for staff. School day will be
extended to make up the extra hours.
f) Optional French for Gr. 7-9 from next year. Will offer more CTS type courses in place of
French.
Mr. Nederlof
Numeracy presentation – every school must be part of a numeracy committee. Committee is
participated by every school in the division. Focus on promoting numeracy in every day life.
Old Business
a) Score clock – is now working ok since electrical repair
b) Guest speakers – Teluswise got in touch, and are happy to come out. Waiting for them to
respond.
c) Report Cards - Leah compiled some feedback and returned it to BRSD.

Treasurer’s Report
Full report attached. Accepted as read by Bharb. 2nd by Candace.
Old Business
a) Casino – see treasurer’s report.
b) Fundraising – meat fundraiser finished. Plant fundraiser being organized.
c) Breakfast program – lots of supplies. We need to buy shelves for the storage cabinet. Susie to
buy shelves and get reimbursed by school breakfast fund.
d) 30 Hour famine. Breakfast is organized. Parent council will donate $100 to world vision. Candace
make a motion. Dawn 2nd. AIF.
e) Field Trips – for each field trip school will determine how many parent chaperones they will
need, and only take what they need. School going to Beauty & the Beast at the end of April.
f) Sports Fees – Basketball fees for this year is $40 per student. Need to figure out a better system
for next year. We will get a quote for another set of uniforms for basketball (Red with white
accent).
g) Bottle drive – April 22nd. Kindergarten will do it.
New Business
a) Hot Breakfast – pick a couple of dates to do pancake/sausage/egg breakfast. Friday April 28th.
Leah to buy sausage from Tofield Packers – Candace to pick up on 27th. Carlene to buy pancake
mix and other supplies.
b) ASCA conference – Kalena is going. BRSD will pay for her hotel / conference fees. Parent council
will pay, and then will be reimbursed by BRSD.
c) Newspaper Ad – Leah will organize advert to go in Booster and Tofield Mercury for our annual
thank you’s.
