THE EASTER GOSPEL CONTINUES…
John 20:19-31
Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful, had locked all the
doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.” Then he
showed them his hands and side.
The disciples, seeing the Master with their own eyes, were exuberant. Jesus repeated his
greeting: “Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you.” Then he took a deep
breath and breathed into them. “Receive the Holy Spirit,” he said. “If you forgive
someone’s sins, they’re gone for good. If you don’t forgive sins, what are you going to do
with them?”
4
But Thomas, sometimes called the Twin, one of the Twelve, was not with them when
Jesus came. The other disciples told him, “We saw the Master.” But he said, “Unless I
see the nail holes in his hands, put my finger in the nail holes, and stick my hand in his
side, I won’t believe it.”
Eight days later, his disciples were again in the room. This time Thomas was with them.
Jesus came through the locked doors, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.”
Then he focused his attention on Thomas. “Take your finger and examine my hands.
Take your hand and stick it in my side. Don’t be unbelieving. Believe.”
Thomas said, “My Master! My God!”
Jesus said, “So, you believe because you’ve seen with your own eyes. Even better
blessings are in store for those who believe without seeing.” Jesus provided far more
God-revealing signs than are written down in this book. These are written down so you
will believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and in the act of believing, have
real and eternal life in the way he personally revealed it.
Friends, listen. God is still speaking.
Thanks be to God!

*WORDS OF COMMITMENT
Leader:
Faith demands choice.
By the grace of God, we can choose.
People:
We choose to believe
that light is better than darkness,
sharing is better than hoarding,
truth is better than deceit,
mercy is better than revenge,
love is better than indifference,
God is stronger than chaos.
Leader:
We choose to have faith in the God who is love
and choice will verify itself on the long and narrow road of life.
People:
By grace, we choose to choose faith.
Thanks be to God!
Leader:
Then let us begin by sharing together our common prayer….

*THE LORDS PRAYER (as translated by Parker Palmer)
Heavenly Father, heavenly Mother,
Holy and blessed is your true name.
We pray for your reign of peace to come,
We pray that your good will be done, let heaven and earth become one.
Give us this day the bread we need, give it to those who have none.
Let forgiveness flow like a river between us,
from each one to each one.
Lead us to holy innocence beyond the evil of our days —
Come swiftly Mother, Father, come.
For yours is the power and the glory and the mercy:
Forever your name is All in One. Amen.
*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
Leader: "Jesus says to his disciples, 'Peace I leave with you, my own peace I give to
you.'" May we offer to one another words of peace by saying, “Peace be
with you.”
People: And also with you.
You are invited to share greetings of welcome and peace with those around you.
All children through fifth grade wishing to attend Sunday School are invited to exit to the
Fellowship Hall during the passing of the peace.

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LADY GAGA
In this service of worship, we will be drawing from the music and lyrics of singer and
songwriter Lady Gaga as a way to express our resurrection faith. This Catholic school-girl
turned chart-topper, who is known for her electropop and theatricality, often delivers
through her songs an overt, yet often unnoticed, faith. She has earned the admiration of
countless fans by offering meaningful lyrics in the midst of soul-stirring, dance-provoking,
thoughtful and meaningful music. The music today is performed by local musicians under
the direction of producer, composer, and performer of multiple platinum and Grammy
award-winning records (and church member), Clay Ostwald who is presently on Broadway
in “On Your Feet.” Approach this service with the prayer that whether you are a longtime
fan, or have never really listened to Lady Gaga, God will open something new inside you.

BEER AND HYMNS
Sunday, April 30 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Duffy’s Party Room
2108 SW 57 Avenue, Miami
What to expect? We gather young and old. We socialize. We sing. We wet our whistles
with the beverage of our choice. The only rule is we sing hymns 100 or more years old —
(except when we pull out a few folk songs and bits of pop songs. So in other words, there
are no rules!). We value tradition, but also silliness, mashups, and occasional superfermatas. We will mostly sing a cappella with bits of tambourine and electric piano. We
have pre-made booklets of hymns — and expect boisterous singing and swaying. Audience
participation is a must!
Please bring cash for the purchase of beverages (and/or available food) from Duffy’s– we
want to be good partners with our venue. (They do not take credit cards). Free root beer for
the kids and those who prefer a soda.
