Additional material: pressure wrap for compression of encapsulant: not included Max. splice ø after completion of wrapping cannot exceed the max. bundle ø as specified in the related instruction. 1 Splice cables following locally approved methods. Maximum sheath openings (L) must be in accordance with related instructions. 2 Using the kitted cleaning tissue, clean the cables over a distance of approximately 100 mm. 3 With release papers on, wrap mastic around each cable to determine the length for one wrap. Cut one piece for each cable. 4 Remove release papers from the cut mastic strips and wrap around each cable sheath without stretching, starting at the jacket opening. If present, wrap mastic over the shield continuity clip at both ends. 5 For each branched cable, make two filler rolls of mastic. Position them over the mastic and between the cables and press firmly in place. 6 Center the containment sheet around the mastic leaving 10 mm of mastic exposed. Wrap the sheet tightly around the mastic. Bring the sheets together above the joint. 7 With the sheet end together, form a seam by twisting the sheets together down tightly onto the mastic and secure it with PVC tape. Do NOT tape more than 5 mm onto the cable sheath. 8 Open the folded sheet at the top. Inject RSS encapsulant covering all wires and connectors uniformly. Consult the table of “recommended RSS quantities” as a guide to the amount of encapsulant. 9 Bring the sheet together above the splice, re-form the seams at both ends. Grip the sheet above the joint, twist it together forming a seam. Continue rolling down to the joint. Secure the sheet seams at both ends with PVC tape, taking care to apply light compression only to the encapsulated splice. 10 Massage the encapsulent forming an even profile across the splice free from air voids. 11 Using pressure wrap, apply two loose layers with 50% overlap maintaining an even profile across the splice. Apply three more layers with increasing tension, stretching the pressure wrap to half width on the last two layers. Secure the end with PVC tape. Complete the splice closure following the related installation instruction.
