government-issued ID and sign in at the Welcome Center. Guests
under the age of 18 must be accompanied and signed for by a
responsible adult.
Guest Conduct. Members are responsible for all guests identified
with their membership. Guests are expected to adhere to the same
guiding values and behaviors expected of our members and staff.

($30 per family).
•A member may have 1 guest with him/her per visit (i.e. an
individual can have 1 guest with them at any given time; each
member of a family membership may have 1 guest each).
In order to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all of our
members, we ask that everyone abide by the following guidelines.
Membership Card. All members must present a membership card
to gain access to the YMCA. Should you forget your card, you will
be asked for photo ID.
Member Conduct. At the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA, five
core values guide all we do: Faith, Caring, Honesty, Respect and
Responsibility. The YMCA is a family-oriented center; members
and guests are expected to behave in an appropriate manner.
Prohibited Actions. We expect persons using the YMCA to behave
in a mature and responsible way, and to respect the rights and
dignity of others. The YMCA does not permit language or any
action that can hurt or frighten another person, or that falls below
a generally accepted standard of conduct. Prohibited actions
specifically include:
•Inappropriate attire.
•Angry or vulgar language, includes swearing, name-calling or
shouting.
•Physical contact with another person in any angry or threatening
way.
•Any demonstration of promiscuous activity or sexual contact
with another person.
•Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language or
any menacing behavior.

•Members and guests are encouraged to be responsible for their
personal comfort and safety, and to ask any person whose
behavior threatens their comfort to refrain. If a member or
guests feels uncomfortable in confronting the person directly,
they should report the behavior to a staff person.
•YMCA staff members are eager to be of assistance. Members and
guests should not hesitate to notify a staff member if assistance
is needed.
•In order to be able to carry out these policies, we ask that
members and guests identify themselves to staff when asked.

all reported incidents. Suspension or termination of YMCA
membership privileges may result from a violation.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS & GUIDELINES (cont.)
Abuse Prevention Statement
The YMCA is a family oriented organization and the positive
development of our young people is paramount. You, as a member
of our YMCA community, have the opportunity to be a positive
influence by serving as a role model for our children whenever you
are in their presence.
Abuse will not be tolerated in any YMCA facility or program;
whether it takes the form of physical, emotional, neglect or sexual,
and whether it is initiated by a child or an adult. If you identify
behavior that is cause for concern, please bring it to the attention
of YMCA staff immediately.
Persons designated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement
(“FDLE”) as Sexual Offenders or Sexual Predators are not eligible
for membership in the YMCA. Members and guests are screened
against the national registry of sex offenders.
Safety Guidelines
It is the responsibility of all members, guests, volunteers and staff
of the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA to make safety a matter of
primary concern. The following are some rules and guidelines that
help us to maintain a safe environment for everyone.
Locker Rooms. Lockers are available for daily use only. Lockers
are designated to hold clothes and gym bags during your visit.
We strongly recommend that our members not bring items of
value into the YMCA. The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen
items.
Occasionally it is necessary for children to accompany their
parents or legal guardian into the locker room in order to receive
needed assistance. Therefore, children ages 5 and younger
may enter the locker room of the opposite sex with a parent or
guardian. Family locker rooms are available.
Wellness Center. There is an inherent risk with any exercise
program. The YMCA recommends that you have medical
clearance from your personal physician prior to initiating an
exercise program. In some instances, written clearance from
your personal physician may be required prior to you beginning
your exercise program.
Please bring a towel for your personal use. The YMCA does not
provide towels, but paper towels/wipes are provided for you to
wipe down equipment after use.
Aquatics. To ensure the highest level of safety, all children are
swim tested and identified in a way that lifeguards can visually
confirm their swimming ability.
Our lifeguards are the authority in the pool area and need your
assistance and cooperation to ensure that everyone has a safe
and enjoyable experience. Please avoid distracting them from
their duties.
Our lifeguards will close the pools whenever the guard on duty
determines that the safety of the swimmers or the guard’s ability
to perform his/her duty is compromised.
6
Since all of our pools are outdoor pools and affected by weather
conditions, please call ahead when weather conditions are
questionable.
Aquatics Parent Guidelines: The level of parent supervision on
the pool deck depends on the color of your child’s swim band and
his or her age. All children must be swim tested to receive a swim
band.
Red swim band (non-swimmer): For children 12 and younger, a
parent/guardian must be within arm’s length of the child while
swimming. Children 5 and older may wear a U.S. Coast Guard
certified personal flotation device and parent/guardian must be
within arm’s length of child while swimming.
Yellow swim band (child has passed shallow-water swim test):
For children 12 and younger, a parent/guardian must remain on
the pool deck and the child may swim in a zone that’s armpitdeep or less. For children 12-14, a parent must remain on the
pool deck and the child must swim in a zone that’s armpit-deep
or less, or the child may wear a Coast Guard-approved certified
personal flotation device.
Green swim band (Child has passed deep water swim test):
For children 8 and younger, a parent must remain on the pool
deck. For children 8-12, the parent must be at the facility, and
the child may swim without parental supervision as long as
conduct doesn’t warrant otherwise. Children 12-14 may swim
without parental supervision as long as conduct doesn’t warrant
otherwise.
Changes to Membership
Address Change. Please keep your current address on file with
the YMCA. We also request that you give the YMCA your email
address. Sending information via email helps the YMCA save
resources and communicate efficiently.
Change in Family Household Members. Please report changes
to the individuals included on your membership as soon as they
occur.
Cancellation. In the event you must cancel your YMCA
membership, please plan to come to the YMCA in person. Your
membership is very important to us, and we want to handle each
membership cancellation with the attention it deserves.
Membership Hold. Your membership may be placed on a
temporary hold once per calendar year. See the Welcome Center
for hold qualifications.
Automatic Payments. Automatic bank draft payments must be
canceled in person by signing the termination section of the
original authorization document. Requests to stop the draft
cannot be accepted over the phone. We must receive changes
that will affect your monthly automatic payment by the 20th of
the prior month.
Joining Fee. The joining fee is non-refundable and once a
membership has been canceled for more than 60 days, it must be
paid again to reinstate the membership.
Aquatics Make-Up Policy
Thunderstorm Policy
Make-up classes are scheduled when the YMCA needs to cancel
a class due to inclement weather or circumstances beyond our
control.
To schedule a make-up lesson, please contact the Aquatics
Department or Welcome Center. You will have the option to choose a
day and time that best meets your needs from the schedule of makeup classes. Your child’s spot must be reserved in a make-up class to
ensure class sizes. You have up to 6 months to schedule your child’s
make-up lesson. After that time, no make-ups, credits or refunds will
be offered.
If the YMCA holds a make-up class but your child is absent, we do not
provide additional make-up classes, credits, or refunds. If a regularly
scheduled class or a make-up class is in progress and we are required
to close the pool, we will only reschedule if we have completed less
than half of the class.
As a safety precaution to our members and staff, when lightning
breaches an 8-mile perimeter of the YMCA we will close the pool.
We will open 30 minutes after the last lightning strike is reported
through the National Weather Service.
Wellness Center Guidelines
To ensure that our Y is a place everybody can enjoy, we ask that all
members abide by the following guidelines.
•Towels are required while exercising.
•Please wipe down equipment after each use.
• All weight plates and dumbbells should be re-racked
when finished.
•All equipment must be used properly. For help using
equipment, see a staff member.
•Dropping weights on the floor is not permitted.
•Only water in a closed container is permitted in the
Wellness Center. No food or other drinks are allowed.
•There is a 30-minute time limit on all cardio equipment if other members are waiting.
•Proper attire must be worn in the Wellness Center.
Denim and open toe/heel shoes are not permitted.
•Please be courteous to other members at all times.
• Cell phone use is not permitted in the Wellness Center.
Guidelines for youths ages 10-15:
•All youths must complete an orientation before
utilizing the wellness center. Ages 10-11 must do the
orientation with a guardian.
•Ages 10-11 must have guardian within arm’s reach at all
times and may use Cybex, Freemotion and cardio equipment
and non-weight assisted group exercise classes only.
•Use of free weights, and weight assisted group exercise classes are not permitted until age 16.
•Inappropriate behavior may result in loss of privileges.
Locker Room Policy
Children ages 6 and over are not permitted in the opposite sex
locker rooms. We have family restrooms available for use. Please do
not change your child, regardless of age, on the pool deck for safety
and sanitation reasons.
Pool Guidelines
For your safety and the safety of other members, we ask that you
abide by our pool guidelines.
• One lap lane (long course), 3 lap lanes (short course) will be
available at all times for lap swim. If more than 2 swimmers are
sharing a lane, then circle swim is mandatory.
• Swimsuits are required – no cut-offs permitted.
• Children needing flotation devices must be accompanied by an
adult in the water, regardless of age.
• An adult (age 18 or older) must accompany any child who does not
pass the swim test. Swim test is 25-yard swim and one minute
tread.
• Ages 11 and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all
times.
• All children age 17 and under must be swim tested.
Swim Test is 25-yard swim and one minute tread.
• No inflatable flotation devices allowed.
• Swim diapers must be worn. No changing on pool deck.
• Rough play, running, and throwing swimmers are prohibited.
• Don’t forget: Everywhere members can enjoy open swim at any of
the Tampa YMCA aquatic centers.
Swim Testing Policy
Each swimmer will be given a safety band to wear.
Green band (deep water test): Swimmers must jump into water
that’s over his/her head and return to the surface; they must
tread water for one minute; they must swim one pool length (25
yards) unassisted and without rest. Swimmers must maintain a
positive body position for the entire distance, starting at the
deep end and traveling to the shallow end (if swimmer tires, he/
she may be able to stand). “Green band” swimmers are allowed in
all pool areas.
Yellow band (shallow water test): Swimmers are placed in a
horizontal position by the testing guard, then must stand up
(regain vertical position); they are then placed in a horizontal
position again and must again regain a vertical position. “Yellow
band” swimmers must stay in water that’s armpit-deep or less.
Red band (“non-swimmers”): Those who decline or don’t pass the
shallow-water test are considered “red band” swimmers. “Red
band” swimmers must stay in water that’s armpit-deep or less
and require an adult to be within an arm’s length and/or wear a
flotation device.
NOTES: Children with red or yellow bands may swim in the deep end if accompanied by an
adult. Intentionally wearing the wrong color band results in immediate removal from the
pool. Shallow water is in relationship to the swimmer. For small children, the shallow end of
the pool may still be deep water to them. Final competency includes having the swimmer or
parent read all pool rules.
7
The Y is the starting point for many
youths to learn about becoming
and staying active, and developing
healthy habits that they can carry
with them throughout their lives.
The benefits are far greater than
just physical health. Whether it’s
gaining the confidence that comes
from learning to swim or building
the positive relationships that
lead to good sportsmanship and
teamwork, the Y is about building
the whole child, from the inside out.

Adult Water Fitness
Looking for an exercise class that improves your strength,
cardiovascular capacity, and endurance while taking it easy on your
joints? If so, water exercise is for you. The best part is that we have
a heated pool that is a comfortable temperature year round.
Water Aerobics: This is a 60-minute low to medium intensity
class, using a variety of equipment. This class offers shallow and
deep water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular
endurance.
Water In Motion: High energy choreography combined with current
hit music make this class one of our most popular.
Days and times for Adult Water Fitness classes can be found on the
Monthly Group Exercise schedules available at the Welcome Center,
online at www.tampaymca.org or on the mobile app.
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a free 12-week, small group

cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period
between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling
physically and emotionally strong enough to return to their normal
life or their “new normal.” The program is conducted outside of
medical facilities to emphasize that LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
is about health, not disease. Our goal is to help participants
build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and
endurance and improve functional ability. Additional goals include
