Record for
German Biathletes
At this year’s Biathlon
World Championship
in Hochfilzen, Austria,
the German team
broke all records. The
athletes from Germany
won overall seven gold
medals and one silver.
Koala Cub in Germany
As from March 2017 visitors can see and
admire a baby koala bear at the zoo in
Duisburg, Germany. Ramboora, which
means “Light” in the Australian Aboriginal
language, was born last summer, but it
started to appear in public only now. In
Germany one may find koala bears only in
the zoos of Duisburg, Dresden and Leipzig.
Tokio Hotel’s Comeback
The German band Tokio Hotel is
officially back! The members, Bill
and Tom Kaulitz, Georg Listing and
Gustav Schäfer have released their
fifth studio album Dream Machine on
3rd March. As part of their 2017 music
tour, fans had the chance to see them
playing in Germany, the Netherlands,
Italy, Poland, Russia and the Scandinavian countries.
Ancient Statue Excavated
German and Egyptian archaeologists
have unearthed the ruins of a
huge statue of Ramses II amidst a
residential area in Cairo, the capital
city of Egypt. The largest piece is
more than 4 metres long, portraying
the Pharaoh from chin to navel. The
ear is 30 cm long. Dietrich Raue, the
archaeologist leading the excavations
comes from Leverkusen, Germany.
New attraction at the
Munich Zoo
A baby polar bear has
taken her first steps
outdoors at the Hellabrunn
Zoo in Munich. The fluffy
white female cub was born
in November to mother bear Giovanna and
father bear Yoghi. Her name is Quintana. The
zoo hopes the cub will help raise awareness
about endangered species, like wild polar
bears, whose habitat is shrinking due to global
warming and the melting of polar ice caps.
Breakfast in Germany
A typical breakfast in Germany starts off with a warm beverage such as coffee, tea or hot cocoa. Next follows
bread (Brot) or bread rolls (Brötchen) with various spreads and toppings. These
could include butter (Butter), marmelade (Marmelade) or honey (Honig).
These are the “typical” spreads, although there are others too! Quark (a type of
curd cheese), sausages (Wurst) and cheese (Käse) are also popular. A glass of
juice (Saft) is also commonplace, as is a boiled egg (Ei). Cereals are also common,
particularly among German youth! Müsli, which is a mixture of cereal flakes, nuts
and dried fruit and other ingredients is also favoured! It is mixed with yogurt
(Joghurt) or milk (Milch), and is often topped with fresh fruit (Obst)! Müsli is not
only delicious, but it is healthy too, making it a good alternative to sugary cereals!
