One restaurant in Lille launched a funny tradition many years ago: they threw the empty mussel shells from peoples’ plates out in the street so it piles up. It has become a competition between restaurants as to who has the largest/tallest pile of mussel shells outside their restaurant. La Grande Braderie de Lille is a yearly event which takes place the first weekend of September; it is the largest "flea market" in Europe and attracts 2 million people in two days every year. http://www.ieseg.fr/
