MY ART TILE FRAME HOW TO SELECT YOUR ART TILE FRAME Ceramic artists create art tiles to add a unique and compelling beauty to our decorative environments. To showcase their work, we have developed standard art tile frames for the most popular sizes and the ability to make custom frames for any art tile - or group of tiles. The beautiful 1/4-sawn white oak, strong mortise and tenon joinery, enduring Arts & Crafts design principles, and delightful embellishments combine with our fine finishes to showcase art tiles in a manner that makes them a valued addition to the thoughtful living space. Step 1 - Select the single or triptych frame style and size for your favorite art tile(s). 4x8 Life-Time v 6x6 h 8x8 4 x 12 v h Mackintosh Ellis Single Art Tile Frames - Standard Styles and Sizes Our three standard single styles - Life-Time, Mackintosh, and Ellis are suitable for use with 4 x 8, 6 x 6, 8 x 8, and 4 x 12 art tiles. For the 4 x 12 tiles, our triptych frame provides for a central 14 x 12 beveled mirror surrounded by the art tiles. A complete range of custom sizes and a selection of all ten of our frame styles are also available. Step 2 - Determine whether you need a standard or custom frame size: Making tiles involves the heating to high temperatures and subsequent cooling of clay into it’s final ceramic form with a very hard surface glaze. The final size of tiles can vary depending on many influences - the initial width and height, the thickness, the exact composition of the clay, the “firing” process, and other factors. In addition, art tiles are handmade, normally have slightly angled sides, and usually allow space around them for installation on walls where grout is used between them. Our standard size frames are designed to accept art tiles within a certain size tolerance or we can easily provide a custom size frame for any size tile with a thickness of 1/2 to 7/8 of an inch. If you have a Motawi Tileworks art tile and would like a frame, simply order the standard frame style for your art tile.. Our standard frames have been designed to accept Motawi Tileworks art tiles. If you have an art tile by another ceramic artist and would like a frame, there are 3 options: • On the back of the art tile, measure the width at the top and bottom, the height on the left and right side, and the thickness. W H top up left H right Back of Tile W bottom • If the dimensions are equal to or 1/4’ less than the corresponding frame size, a standard size frame can be used. For example - a 6 x 6 size frame will accept art tiles with width and height dimensions between 6 and 5 3/4 inches. Please indicate tile thickness when ordering. • If the art tile has dimensions outside this range a custom frame is required. Simply provide the dimensions above as measured on the back of the tile along with the thickness dimension and provide them to us with your order. We will make a custom frame to fit and return it ready to install the art tile and hang or display. • Provide the tile artist name, contact information, the name or description of the tile, and the specified or approximate size with your order. We will contact the artist, confirm the proper dimensions, make a frame to fit, and return it ready to accept the art tile and hang or display. • Send the art tile(s) to us and we will frame it and return it ready to hang.
