JUNIOR LEADERS
TRAINING ACADEMY
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AND
NEVADA DISTRICT ROYAL RANGERS
CONCERN:
In the MINISTRY OF ROYAL RANGERS, boys have been striving to achieve all that is
held high in terms of standards, growth and honors. For years they struggled from one
advancement to the next, but only when there was a “next” challenge to go on to. Some
of these boys achieved the highest award a boy can receive, the Gold Medal of
Achievement. Often times after receiving this award, they had nothing left to challenge
them. It was not long before they were no longer actively involved in Royal Rangers and
sometimes not involved in their church at all. Many of these young men were between
the ages of 16 to 21, a time in their lives when they need to begin developing their
leadership skills. As a result, young men with as many as ten years of indoctrination and
training in the church began to disappear from the church. Years later, one or two of
these young men may have reappeared in the church and perhaps have become
involved as leaders in the church and sometimes in Royal Rangers as a Commander.
What happened to all those young men? What happened to all those Gold Medalists?
What could have been accomplished during those years these young men wanted to do
more in the Royal Ranger ministry?
PURPOSE:
The DISTRICT JUNIOR LEADERS TRAINING ACADEMY is one of many options to
help answer these questions. Several training camps will take place each year with
some on a rotational basis. This will give boys intense, professional training along with
powerful spiritual emphasis. This training experience is designed to be a catalyst and a
springboard of spiritual encouragement. The Academy will prepare young men for a
gradual, ever increasing role of leadership in their local outpost, church, community and
country. By itself the Academy cannot accomplish this. It takes a local outpost and
church with the vision to provide a place of ministry for these older Rangers. More
importantly, it is an active outpost that continues to give the sense of belonging with an
elite group of Rangers. The inspiration and training the Ranger brings back to his
outpost is a source of rich ministry and edification to other boys in the outpost. It is our
intention that a young man will experience a deeper, more meaningful relationship with
Jesus Christ during his training at the Academy. He will learn things about himself and
what he needs to do in order to follow the Lord’s will in his life. This high sense of
spiritual awareness will become infectious to his outpost brothers. The entire outpost
will desire to have the same experience to learn, to advance, and respond to the
challenge of the Academy. In short, through the Academy, boys learn the importance of
assuming their role of leadership within their church, thus training boys to become
leaders.
DEFINITION:

discipleship and leadership responsibilities. On the following page is a list of the camps.

Overview of Academy Camps
JUNIOR TRAINING CAMP - JTC
Six day format (½ day, 5 full days, ½ day)
PURPOSE: This camp will teach the role of a Junior Leader in his outpost. We
will introduce him to the skills needed to return to his outpost and assist his commander.
A strong spiritual awareness will be emphasized.
CAMP FORMAT: We will use an NTC style format as far as camping in patrols
and daily formations. We do not follow NTC format as far as the same classes and
training. If you do, a boy has nothing to look forward to at NTC as a leader. Camping
skills will not be taught but will be practiced in a camping situation. By this point a boy
should have been taught camping skills by his commander. If not, he will learn from his
patrol. JTC boys by patrol will assist the camp cook after meals to cleanup. Meals will be
served in a formal manner to practice etiquette.
CLASSES: He will be introduced to many aspects of being an effective leader:
• Patrol System
• Junior Leader in the outpost
• Importance of punctuality
• Traits of a good Leader
• Advancement system
• Proper care of Uniforms
• Proper care of shoes and accessories
• Voice commands/facing/movements/formations/flag raising
• Building council fires, skits, and stories
• Cooking and serving etiquette
• Outpost games
• Making the most of the Academy
********************************************************************************************
ADVANCED JUNIOR TRAINING CAMP - AJTC

leadership training and encourage their spiritual growth. The areas the boys were
introduced to in JTC will be studied and practiced in depth.
CAMP FORMAT: This camp will run in conjunction with JTC. Advanced boys will
be put into patrols and will fall into formation with the JTC boys for morning assembly,
meals, and other formations during the day. Their training will be separate from the JTC
boys. Advanced boys by patrol will assist the camp cook in setting tables in preparation
for meals. Meals will be served in a formal manner to practice etiquette.
CLASSES: Classes will be many of the same subjects taught in JTC and will be
studied and practiced at length. Life skills will be covered in depth in a group discussion
format. We will allow boys the opportunity in a safe environment to be able to open up
and share feelings and learn from the experiences of their peers as well as instructors. It
is our desire that each young man will experience a deeper, more meaningful
relationship with Jesus Christ during his training.

How to find out your correct hat size. Use a tape measure to measure around your head:
- across your brow (approx 1" above eye brows)
- slightly above your ears
- keeping the tape parallel to the floor
- this measurement is a "two-person" event and is nearly impossible to accurately do by yourself.
For best results, use a plastic or cloth tape measure.
Alternately, you may use a piece of string or cord and then measure the length of the cord.

medal and ribbon may continue to be worn on the Royal Rangers uniform after a boy
graduates into the ranks of adult leadership.
