Advancement of Women (OSAGI)
 United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Assembly Resolution 48/162

The functions of the Executive Board are:
 To implement the policies formulated by the General Assembly and
coordination and guidance from the Economic and Social Council
 To receive information from and give guidance to the head of the
Entity
 To ensure that the activities and operational strategies are consistent
with the overall policy guidance set forth by the General Assembly
and the Economic and Social Council.
 To approve administrative and financial plans
 To give inter-governmental support
 To give oversight to the Entity
 To supervise operational activities

MEMBERSHIP
41 members who serve on a rotating basis:






10 from the Group of African States
10 from the Group of Asia-Pacific States
4 from the Group of Eastern European States
6 from the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States
5 from the Group of Western European and Other States
(unique rotation scheme)
6 from contributing countries
The Economic and Social Council elects members to the Executive Board
for a term of three years.

FOCAL POINT FOR EXECUTIVE BOARD MATTERS
Assists the EB in:
• Overall planning Executive Board activities
• Coordinating with UN-Women substantive divisions in the preparation of
relevant inputs to the Executive Board
• Advising on technical matters
• Organizing Board and Bureau meetings
• Assisting in the negotiations of outcome documents
• Preparing reports of Board sessions
• Ensuring the timely provision of documentation in official languages
