Handelsbanken’s card reader
You have received a card reader so you can log on and carry out your banking transactions in Online Banking.
The log-on card will be sent to you separately by mail when you have selected a six-digit PIN.
You use the log-on card together with this PIN.

LOG-ON CARD
Start the card reader by inserting your card with the chip
facing down.
LOGIN
This is used when you log on to
Online Banking with a card reader not
connected with a cable.
BUY
This is used when you make card
purchases online without a cable.
C
Deletes what you have
entered.
SIGN
This is used when you sign banking
transactions with a card reader not
connected with a cable.
OK
Starts the card reader or
confirms what you have
entered.
CABLE SOCKET
You can use the card reader both with and without
a cable. You connect the cable to the card reader
and the computer.

Logging on with or without
a cable – what’s the difference?
Log-on with cable
Logging on with a card reader linked with a cable is the best solution if you use the same computer or make
many transactions. With the cable connected, fewer clicks are required than if you log on with a card reader
without a cable.
If you have the BankID symbol on your log-on card, you can also log on and carry out transactions
with public authorities and organisations. Read more about BankID at handelsbanken.se/bankid.
To use the card reader with a cable, you will need to install two programs on your computer. You can find the
programs and instructions at handelsbanken.se/install.

Log-on without a cable
Logging on using a card reader without a cable is the best solution when you want to use several computers or
tablets. It requires no installed programs and no USB port. When you log on without a cable, you can only carry
out banking transactions in Handelsbanken Online Banking.
You can also use the card reader without a cable to verify online card purchases.
In this case, you insert your debit or credit card into the card reader.

How to use the card reader
with a cable
Before you can start to use the card reader with a cable, you need to install two programs on your computer – a
security program and a driver. You can find the programs and instructions at handelsbanken.se/install.
Plug the card reader into the computer
The large plug is inserted into a
USB port on your computer.
This symbol
is usually shown on the USB port.
The small plug is inserted
into the card reader.
Log on to Online Banking
1. Insert the log-on card into the card reader
2. Go to handelsbanken.se
3.Select Log on – Personal banking or Log on – Corporate banking
4. Select log-on using Card reader with cable
5. Select your BankID and click on Verify my identity
6. Card PIN will be shown on the card reader
7. Enter the six-digit PIN for your card and press OK
Now you are logged on to Online Banking
Signing banking transactions
1. Click on Execute on the page for the transaction
2. Select your BankID and click on Verify my identity
3. Card PIN will be shown on the card reader
4. Enter the six-digit PIN for your card and press OK
Your transaction has now been verified

How to use the card reader
without a cable
You use the same card reader but without a cable.
You don’t need to download any software on your computer.
Log on to Online Banking
1. Go to handelsbanken.se
2.Select Log on – Personal banking or Log on – Corporate banking
3. Select log-on using Card reader without cable
4. Enter your civic registration number
5. Start the card reader by inserting your log-on card
6. Select function will be shown on the card reader
7. Press LOGIN and follow the instructions on the computer
Signing banking transactions
1. Click on Execute on the page for the transaction
2. Insert the log-on card into the card reader
3. Select function will be shown on the card reader
4. Press SIGN and follow the instructions on the computer
Online card purchases
Sometimes you need to confirm an online card purchase using your
card reader. These may involve purchases abroad, purchases from a
computer you have not used previously or a purchase for an unusually
large amount.
This is what you do
1. Insert the card you want to use into the card reader
2. Make sure the cable is disconnected
3. Select function will be shown on the card reader
4. Press BUY and follow the instructions on the computer

Questions and answers
Can I borrow someone else’s card reader?
Yes, the card reader is not personal. You can borrow any card reader that comes from Handelsbanken.
It is your log-on card that is personal.
What do I do when the battery needs changing?
You change the battery yourself by opening the small cover on the reverse of the card reader with a crosspoint
screwdriver. The card reader requires two CR2032 3-volt batteries.
What should I do if I lose my card reader?
The card reader contains no personal information and passwords, so losing it is not a security risk.
If you need a new card reader, contact your branch or customer support.
What happens if I lose my log-on card?
Your log-on card contains your electronic identity. If you lose the card, you should immediately phone and report
its loss so that it can be blocked. In Sweden 020 41 12 12, abroad +46 (0)8 411 21 22.
Can I change the PIN of the log-on card?
No, you cannot change the PIN.
