Where gas levels rise above maximum exposure limits the Metro system raises alarms to instigate site evacuation. By integrating the gas monitoring system and ventilation control not only are harmful gases kept to safe levels but building running costs are also minimised. The system allows for two separate radial circuits up to 1km (3000 feet) long using industry standard cable. Each circuit provides power and communications for up to 125 detectors. Each system is able to monitor 250 toxic, 125 flammable or a mix of 80 toxic and 80 flammable detectors. The AC system design ensures no booster power supplies are required to achieve long cable runs, greatly simplifying the system specification, installation and operation. Equipment installation and commissioning is kept as simple as possible. A wall-mounting bracket is provided to which the slim line controller is fitted. All cables and conduits enter the lower side of the controller via the pre-formed knockouts. Clearly marked terminals ensure cabling connections are rapidly completed. Once the controller and detectors are installed and powered up, the controller automatically recognises which detectors are fitted. Adjustment of detector settings can be made via an infrared remote control unit as required. With up to 250 addressable gas detectors fitted to a system, each with 4 alarm levels, up to 1000 alarm events can be detected by the controller, all of which are logged for later review. Grouping, voting and activation of up to eight fully programmable relays can be set up via the push-button interface or optional PC software. Each relay can be configured for normally energized/de-energized, latching/non-latching and on/off delay operation. Manual override switches for all relays are included as standard in the controller. In addition system operation may be forced remotely via a Remote Override Box if required. Easy to specify, install and operate, used as a standalone gas monitoring system or as part of a wider building management system, the Metro gas detection system ensures people are kept safe from gas hazards and building operating costs are minimised. Provides central monitoring of detector status, local annunciation and automatic control of ventilation and evacuation systems. Suitable for use as an indoor standalone solution or as part of a larger distributed control system Operation Display Ultra-cleardisplay with automatic backlight operation for dark environments. Details relay and detector status, first alarm indication with scrolling history of events, as well as providing alternate pages for review of relay output and fault histories Other Indication Ultra bright alarm and power LEDs Response Time All factory set alarms are instantaneous i.e. time weighted function is disabled. Instantaneous alarm response time 33 seconds (maximum). Time weighted alarms may be set from 1 minute to 8 hours. Alarms may be set between 10% and 90% of full scale Audible Alarm 85dBA at 1m / 90dBA at 1 foot, user hush facility with re-activation on subsequent events. Can be permanently disabled for ‘silent’ operation User Interface T hree level access for normal user, supervisor and service engineer. Normal user: Accept/reset of alarms or review of current events only Supervisor (via key locked door): As above plus configuration/system interrogation using concealed pushbuttons Service: As above with access to all terminal compartments via removable isolation plates System Override Automatic/manual operation of all relays via manual override switches (service function) or via Remote Override Box ZHC2 Infrared Remote Control Supplied with each system the ZHC2 allows convenient set up and configuration of all field devices. Field configured detector information is then downloaded into controller to configure all inputs Installation Details Highlights The Metro controller should be mounted with the display at eye level using the mounting bracket provided. All cable entries are made from the bottom via pre-formed M16/M20 and 3/4" NPT knockouts as appropriate to the method of cable installation. The system electrical supply should be made via a lockable fused isolator suitable for the overall power requirements. 5 core, AC rated, 1mm2 (17AWG) minimum, with overall screen should be used for installation. Cable may be channelled though conduit depending on site practice. Continuity of the screen should be maintained throughout the system for maximum resistance to RFI. Dimensions Wiring Arrangement Screening Power wires must loop through Ferrite, as shown. Controller Detector 1 (L)ive (N)eutral S+ S- To next detector Shield terminated through gland Star point FE Screen To avoid ‘ground loops’ screens should only be bonded to Earth at the controller. For improved EMC/RFI performance ensure continuity of screen throughout all detectors. Via Functional Earth (FE) Installation Details System Overview The maximum installed cable length is 1km (3000 feet) per circuit of up to 125 gas detectors. Two inputs are available providing a maximum system capacity of up to 250 detectors over 2km (6000 feet). A range of associated equipment is available for use with the Metro system providing users with a ‘one stop shop’ for all their requirements.
